I have the new Tamron 35mm f/1.4 with a Metabones on my a7RII. Focusing is glitchy, not nearly as fast as I'd like and it's overall far from an ideal setup. This said, its by far (very far) the sharpest 35mm lens that I have ever used, of any kind, any shape or any brand, period.

Sigma makes great glass. The fact that this new 35mm f/1.2 is natively FE, is a huge plus and I have absolutely no doubt this new lens will be great. But how great for double the price, double the weight and double the speed? I'm very curious to find out as soon as they start getting in to people's hands.

In the meantime, for anyone looking for 35mm lens and/or is not yet familiar with the new Tamron (or thinks they are still just in the average-quality-budget-oriented game), go test drive one if you have a chance, and get ready for a revealing surprise.

Finally I can sell my 24-240mm zoom and don't need to carry it everywhere anymore.

moimoi: Those who are claiming that the A7RIV matches the IQ of the Fuji GFX100 are crazy bat nuts. First of all, you have never handed a GFX camera, second of all, you have never used GF lenses, third of all, Sony colors are far inferior to Fuji. Crank up the ISO and the game is over for Sony. Try again!

DarnGoodPhotos, for staying home and taking pictures of cats, 100MP is still not enough.. there's just too much hair and fine detail to resolve :)

Shutter button falling apart and small pieces falling inside the camera? Relax everyone, I'm sure Fujifilm will promptly fix it with a firmware update :p

Love Photography 888, I am not bothered a bit and I don't give a f..k what others like or don't like. I also don't have a RX100 for that matter and don't plan to buy one. However, throwing absurd adjectives into thin air about a camera with features that are unlike any other camera in the market and calling it "disappointing" is plain stupidity.. at least without a justification as my question was still not answered.

Yapping is easy, reasoning is harder.

.. just a quick question: it's "disappointing" compared to what exactly?

I have to say, well done Asus. This is as fast as Android mobile tech can go right now, with a killer screen and an amazing camera to match. So much for Apple saying they have to stick to LCD for high refresh rates because OLED can't support it yet, and that their 12MP cameras are the most advanced in the word (..and with deep pixels, let's not forget that). And surely, when they actually upgrade their camera modules and have high frame-rates on their OLED displays, will all be "revolutionary", "world's first" and with French-sounding names to match.

My hats off to these "smaller" companies like Asus that actually dare to innovative without superlative names and BS fanfare. This looks like a really fantastic product and definitely one of the most interesting phones of the year.. a real step forward to better tech in our pockets.

Well done Asus, well done.

Aside from speed, I wonder at 35mm focal length what is the real world visual difference in bokeh between f1.2 and f1 4. Because I am debating to buy this lens that is a bit faster over the Tamron 35mm f1.4 (that costs about half and is insanely sharp). I'm leaning towards the Tamron because I had the opportunity to try one for a few test shots and the IQ totally blew me away.. easily one of the best 35mm lenses I've tried to date.

I don't even dare to imagine how "amazing" a 1/1.7" or 1/2.3" smartphone camera sensor with 108MP will look like :p :p :p

haha, most likely you are right on that 😊

Why is the camera rated at 15 stops DR for still photos but only 14 on video? Shouldn't it be exactly the same?..

The difference between real photographers and wanna-be's, is that true photographers use any camera to take great pictures and rarely talk about gear, while the rest waste most of their time talking about cameras and taking bad photos.

Unfortunately no new camera will ever change that.

The world is an amazing place, full of amazing people, saying amazing things, and doing amazing deeds.

I remember when the a7RII came out and it was instantly hailed as a revolution compared to the a7R that suddenly, had always sucked. Then till a few hours ago, we endured 2 and half years of generalized idiocy about how the a7RII had actually always been garbage, the moment the a7RIII came out to replace it. Now, from today, will be the glorious new revelation about how bad the a7RIII had always been and how in fact, the a7RIV is the real deal.

I'm the meantime, 99% of all photos viewed in the world end up on places like Facebook and Instagram, displayed on VGA size windows and JPG compressions at 35% quality.
