Muster Mark: It seems like this is why crop sensor systems exist. A 100-400 lens on m4/3 from Oly or Panasonic make more sense. Of course if you own canon cameras already than this lens makes sense.

@Magnar W how do I "crop" 20Kg off FF tele-primes when I'm going for a 50km hike? Asking for a friend... Maybe hiking with gear is not "real world" enough?

You obviously don't have any decent bags to compare it to, but hey, enjoy it. I'm very happy with my PD gear.

(unknown member): Maybe this is meant compete with the BM Pocket even though it looks bigger. The Black Magic Pocket was the 3rd most used camera for Sundance Films this year (2021). It was used for 4 films. The Alexa mini dominated being use for 19 films and the Canon C300 was 2nd with 10.
Its crazy but a couple Canon 5D models were used too.

@ShaiKhulud because rental houses are not buying these cameras, they are creating them out of thin air, is that it? Rental companies buy what they know will rent out easily, and they do buy them on the "true camera market", just like you and me, but in bigger quantities. The very definition of "camera market".

Lucian111: They come with these thousands of dolars pricetags and then cry that the camera market is crashing... $4600? What's that expensive? The chip? The sensor? The metal casing? The memory card is cheap as chips, and is not even included. The battery should be cheap as well... The software? Oh... $4500 for software seems like a bit too much...

Not that I condone these prices but there are several things we need to take into account: a.) we still don't know what it is and does as far as specs and quality; b.) IC shortages are hitting all industries, auto, computers, and of course cameras; c.) tariffs are also affecting almost everything; d.) global logistics costs are increasing a lot due to the "situation".

snowsurferDS: Wow. There is literally nothing that can compete with this camera at this price. In regards to video, you'd have to go for an FX6 which costs about the same as this, but it's much bigger and DOESN'T TAKE PHOTOS. Hybrid professionals now literally have only one obvious choice.

You go champ, but you are replying to a post that is about one thing and making yourself look like a fool in the process. It is quite amusing. Please keep it up, I'm a bit bored right now.

@mastix The FX6 does all that and more, without many of the drawbacks of the C70, but this is still a post about hybrid professionals so what you are saying is as irrelevant as your previous comments on this post, unless a new firmware has suddenly enabled great stills capabilites on the C70 and/or FX6, and it hasn't.

Of course those two entry level cine cameras are better than the Alpha 1 for video, although It is debatable if and how much better the C70 is in comparison to the FX6, but that's quite irrelevant since we're talking about hybrid shooting here. Specifically hybrid professionals - those who shoot both video and stills for a living (weddings, corporate events, even product, etc). And my point being, the only camera on the market that can come close to being the best of both worlds in one package, and at what is frankly a stupidly low price (when put in that context) is the Alpha 1.

While anyone is free to use what their want, the only camera that can compete with this in video is the FX6, at the same price, and it doesn't take photos. So if they want inferior video, sure, but if they want the best of both worlds, for what is actually an incredibly good price, this is the only choice. Period.

Wide-Open: The Sony Alpha 1 to Be Used in CBS’s Super Bowl LV Coverage

Seems weird that CBS isn't taking DPR comment section into account and Get the cheaper Canon R5 instead!!

Anyway last year The Associated Press switched to Sony, Now CBS is Using Alpha 1 for Super Bowl and Fox Sports is covering the NFL with Sony rigs, What's Next for Sony? Probably more news agencies and Sport channels will switch too !

They'd have to stop recording for an hour or more every 30 minutes with the R5 overheating and its ridiculous recovery times, and then find the 2 extra stops of dynamic range that the A1 has over the R5. The R5 is cheaper for a reason - it's a good camera, but it's a toy in comparison to the A1.

I switched to C1 from LR and never looked back, and if they don't soon optimize Premiere for Ryzen I will ditch that too, plus the pricing policy is outrageous. My CS6 license is more than enough for the few times I need to do frequency separation or some astro/focus stacking in PS, but even for that there are now excellent (and cheap) tools from other companies. Adobe took ages to optimize for mutiple cores and threads, and now seems to be taking ages to optimize for Ryzen. They just don't give a f***. I have two 980Tis in my system and they are not being used because it's on a Ryzen CPU. Premiere Pro was faster on my 6 year old Haswell than on a blazing fast 12 core / 24 thread Zen 2 CPU, which smokes Intel in any app that isn't made by Adobe. Adobe truly disgusts me.

Felice62: The review was slightly OLYMPUS biased. A camera costing twice the price of its competitor can’t be only HHHR better than...
The fact that it’s ‘sexier’ doesn’t add value and it’s on the personal, truthfully.

Also, I find the additional features such as post focus and 6k Photo add a huge load of value....

The G9 is the smarter purchase by far if you look at the (street) prices, and also if you think that Oly menus designed by trained chimps (at best) are a crime against humanity (as I do). Before accusing me of brand bias, 80% of my investment in photography is in Olympus lenses, so no.
