I was hoping for a straight up 7D2 successor which it falls somewhat short. R7 AF will be great, has high frame rates, and great video specs (which I don't really need) but is lacking in 7D2 ...

I know the reviews will arrive in time, but I'm wondering if anyone can speak to Fuji's animal eye detect in general. On par or near to the big three? Asking because the Canon R7 is a bust for me ...

What a crippling disappointment. Pun most definitely intended.

I'd try a 1x1 crop. Been using that lately and the results can be surprising.

Are you using mechanical shutter? That looks more like shutter shock.

I'll try to answer your question in the sense that you asked it - not like some others on here. Unfortunately its more of a 90D replacement. 7D2 had pro build quality (weather sealing, internal ...

I was frustrated for a little while as well. I ended up foregoing Constant Preview and use the exposure meter. I usually capture everything at -2/3 ev and boost shadows in post without thinking ...
