It's interesting when out of camera JPGs are compared with RAW (with adjustments) - this OOC (out of camera) JPG looks dull and lifeless in comparison -
but JPGs are not necessarily always posted unprocessed -
I downloaded this image 7244012662.jpg and did some very minimal processing with an OLD (2008) editor - Corel PhotoImpact X3 and the result now may be more comparable -

I realize this is an old news item - but reading about the original Content Aware Fill first available in PhotoShop CS5 -

Apparently GIMP has had that also in its Resynthesizer plug-in.

Perhaps not as convenient as PhotoShop,
but GIMP and the plug-in are FREE!

A good demo video is on YouTube seems to be using the same pics as the PhotoShop demo-

VT: Please don't take this the wrong way.
I was actually so inspired with these photos -
thought I'd see what could be achieved with what I already had.

Had a peacock feather lying around from a decorative arrangement - probably about 20 years old

Two photographic microscopes - a <$3 clip-on 60x LED microscope for phones and a USB microscope that took 640x480 (0.3Mp) photos (about $15; both off eBay)

Don't know how to rearrange/order photos in my album for the right sequence.
Hopefully the titles would be adequate to explain the photos.

Of course none of the photos are anywhere near the quality of these -
but I was quite surprised at the results.

FWIW - I just posted details of what I used with more "objective" test target.

barondla: Impressive images! Would never have guessed an attachment could allow this. Motivates me to try some ultra macro.
Thanks for sharing

Thanks.
