On challenge #3 Candid Moods (happy) (8 comments in total)

My image was also disqualified. It was clearly a candid picture, taken with a EF300mm f/4L IS USM +1.4x as I was photographing birds in the trees. I turned around and took the picture as my son was finishing his chore. Perhaps the host needs to look at how the image was produced. It might help with knowing if a picture was posed or candid. http://www.dpreview.com/galleries/7855417764/photos/3447692/caught-ya

Thank-you Ruth! I love your challenges and will continue to enter. They are fun. Alaska was an awe inspiring place. It was warm to hot there in July 2015. Fun. The waters were glass and the clouds posed just right. :-)

Stunning picture! Well deserved 1st.
...one comment: you might clone out the dust spots and look at your lens and check your sensor. Because of the fun conditions you encountered, "sand" got in the way. :-)

Stupid question but... What is Macro Photography? Seems it was explained somewhat in the directions; uhhh but many here are not the definition of Macro Photography. Just sayin (Fun challenge!)

The Canon 5D Mark II is a wonderful full frame camera with a large sensor which makes the image very large {3488 x 5024, original image size}. You can crop to your hearts content and still have a sharp image. The lens{EF24-70mm f/2.8L USM} I used is also a very good one. Any "L" Canon lens will be sharp if the image is taken correctly. The aperture was 2.8 which is fast; no blur can usually be detected from camera shake. The lens also has image stabilization.. that always helps a hand held photo shoot. Focal length was 68.0 mm which is the sweet spot for this lens, with a subject distance of 0.5 m. and "spot" metering. Thank-you for your compliment on this image. Autumn leaves sitting in water are fun to take... :-} Hope the info helps. Very little post-processing was done to this image in Photoshop it was taken raw.

Thank-you for your explanation and comment back. I figured it was something like your description. I enter challenges for fun and as a learning experience. It would be nice to get comments when someone votes .05 on an entry and the reason for it and so I did. I think it should be a rule/requirement when you place that vote. Best your way.

On photo Moth Party! in the Underestimated Beauty - Moths In Flight challenge (4 comments in total)

I voted .05 because I do not see a moth in flight. There may be flight here but the insect is not visible. It is a shame that this entrant was not DQ earlier as I think it is obvious the rules were not followed. ~Best to all: this was a very difficult challenge and all entrants need a pat on the back.~
