I WAS thinking I would buy this camera only when the price dropped significantly. Otherwise I'd buy a weatherproofed Pentax K50 SYSTEM for about the same money. (Yes, I know i wouldn't be getting F2.8, but the much larger sensor easily compensates for that.) However, the reported RX10 problems with sensor-lens misalignment are pushing me toward the Pentax even IF the sony price comes down by several hundred.

I loved my Sony 707. Ever since they came out with the R1 I've been waiting for a slightly longer, stabilized version of the R1 - something the manufacturers should dhave been able to do years ago - but NOOOO... The manufacturers still have their heads up their asses so I am still using my 707, and liking it. Meanwhile, the best the manufactureres seem to be able to do to update the 2 marvelous cameras is for Nikon to release their P7800 (which is roughly equivalent to the 707 - marginally better in a number of ways but not as good in others) and call it "new." Duhh!

fg888: Put an adult size sensor chip (aps-c?) inside and a vf (keeping the articulated display) and i will buy.

trekkeruss, I agree that the canon is a nice camera - but it only has barely half the zoom of this new Nikon. So that would be one reason to not buy the canon and hope for something llike this nikon with a larger sensor and a vf. And I am among those waiting for just such a camera and will not mind the larger size.
