Alec: They've probably rested on their laurels, as opposed to making sure the portraits they've made continue to wow.

'How can you expect that a studio can operate in this generation where everyone is clicking photos from their mobiles and digital cameras?'

This says a lot. It takes love and sweat, it takes investing in your employees, your clients, your space, to continuously build on the quality of your work, thus and reinforcing your brand. It's a lot cheaper and easier to just milk your name until it runs dry - hiring cheap labor and giving them "tell the client to smile then press this button" training, hence turning out glorified passport photos instead of portraits - until a day comes when a critical mass of your clients realize, that nephew with a D500 does legitimately take a better photo.

I don't think Alec's remarks are condescending. Businesses die the moment they rely on heritage more than capability.

B&S could never embrace fully the new digital printing technology, the mastering of which is essential to even compete in a free economy. In fact, B&S should have closed down as business long time ago and operated as a museum of old prints or as an art gallery.

BTW, I am a native of this city.

Fujica: Too bad Samsung couldn't hold up the race.
Perhaps they had the best mirrorless camera with their NX1. It wasn't however enough for them to make enough money with them.

Samsung did try to appeal to serious photographers when they got Alex Webb to pose with the NX-1 (if not outright endorse the camera).

Curious: why was the Nikon D750 not part of this roundup? AFAIK, its MSRP (and street) price is in the USD1200-2000 range.

JacBerg: Maybe DP Review will actually review this one.

After they have completed the review of the K-1, which I am hoping will happen by the end of the year.

On article Upwardly mobile: Sony a6300 Review (2156 comments in total)

A question on the 6300:

Can I set up the camera to use EVF as live display in shooting mode, but use the monitor for playback and parameter settings?

I am now using C2 button as "Deactivate monitor" -- but would prefer to use C2 to enable/disable silent shooting.

SDM motor again? SDM has been a disaster for Pentax. What happened to the newer DC motor?

Could this be a 3.6cm x 3.6cm 1:1 aspect ratio sensor allowing a cropped 3:2 full-frame? The square "full-frame" format would disrupt the market.

The entries in the "Open" catagory were much better, in my opinion.

"Those that can, do. Those that can't, teach."

Maybe, this should be modified to: Those that can (take photos), take photos. Those that can't, write blogs.

Agree with CameraLabTester. What's in CS6 for photographers? I don't like LR and I'll stick with CS3 forever.

Nokia seem to go out of their way to create a photographer's phone, but I see no mention of shutter lag, the single biggest reason why most point and shoots don't work as street cameras, which is where this phone would mostly be used as a camera.

Anirban Banerjee: Samsung makes good cameras spoiled by the wrong choice of lens mount :-(

Why create another proprietary lens mount? Why not just get onto the u4/3 bus? Or maybe even the Leica M-mount.
