paleodawg: Too bad DPReview only announces new smartphones but doesn't review them. Smartphones is where the most exciting new camera tech is at.

They used to review phones here but they stopped a few years ago. I always wondered why. Perhaps not enough viewers for the phone reviews, or phones were getting so good that they were starting to outshine dedicated cameras.

on both.

I too wish cameras had more buttons. In fact, there should be a keypad like a tv remote with 15 to 20 buttons on the right hand side of the back of the camera. One can only dream...

Nice. This has obviously been done on purpose because 7Artisans is one of the cheapest lens manufacturers which contrasts the Leica. I only wish more lenses had that brass look and antique ergonomics.

I wouldn't pay money from a complete stranger to help pay for these photographs of a barren and uninteresting landscape.

AndreyBess: Good lesson for all camera makers.
It's time to hire some engineers from cell phone makers and apply the modern approaches to cool compact electronic devices with very powerful CPU inside.

Except that it is the marketing department which does the designing and not the engineering department. R5 is clearly borked on purpose so as not to threaten other cameras offered by Canon. No reasonable amount of incompetence can explain such a heat sink failure.

I tried pixel shift for catalogueing and there is a problem that manufacturers don't realize. Often you are best off to shoot tethered as the preview option is best on a large screen, among reasons. However, to do this well you will need accompanying tether software that is not tedious to use with pixel shift. Panasonic, for example, has pixel shift on the G9 but there is no button in the tether program to activate it. You need to manually use the camera while it is tethered to enable pixel shift. I wonder, given how specialized this camera is, if fujifilm will also release tether software with a dedicated pixel shift button.

paleodawg: Why not put this sensor into a consumer camera?

Leonp: you are right of course. Perhaps 98% of photographs don't need more resolution than that in the end product as 3MP is enough to deliver.

hammar: The only reason that thing is priced at 20k is because the production run is very small and it is for a market that can afford it. If that sensor were mass produced it would be possible to offer it for a far less steeper price.

This sensor, or Canon's APS-C version of it, needs to exist inside a vlogging camera!!

The mini is still the best all-round drone to get IMO. My main argument why its better than the bigger drones (apart from mobility of carrying it with you) is that that due to the smaller price point you are more free to take riskier maneuvers and it is more relaxing to fly. Flying over water with a 400 euro drone is less nerve wracking than flying over water with a 1200 euro drone. Furthermore, the small weight on it makes the crashes less exciting than with bigger drones, which can be appreciated.

2.72 mp is pathetic for photos, but in video terms it is still 1080p which is a good quality standard. Even as a sensor for a vlogging camera this would be very nice considering the lack of brainpower necessary to use it (bear in mind that the average youtuber does not understand much about shutter speed/iso/aperture and the need for a good light source and they all complain that their camera shoots poorly when it's dark). A sensor like this could be coupled to pretty much any lens and it will shoot well indoors/at night.

paleodawg: Fixed focus and fixed aperture brings one great advantage: the lens is a complete no brainer. Everything from 35cm to infinity will be in focus. The comments here sound like groans but there are a few possible use cases:

>video lens: action cameras have this sort of lens. Not needing to pay attention to focus is actually fun to work with.
>rather epic travel lens. It weighs almost nothing and has no noteworthy physical dimensions plus it will make any camera a no-brainer to use.

I wouldn't expect a great quality lens but if it's at least decent I'd consider buying.

I said "rather epic travel lens" so you misquoted me good sir.

As for what else you say: good for you. I was only pointing out possible use cases for a fixed focus/aperture lens which almost everyone here seems to have overlooked.

Most people have not tried such a lens but it is probably the most redeeming thing about an action camera. Not needing to change focus/aperture and relying entirely on shutter speed and ISO makes for some of the most simple photography/video experience possible. I only wish more lenses like this were available...

Camera looks like its designed by an architect not an engineer. If the EVF was pop-up then the rear screen could have been twice the area which is not shabby if you are meant to edit with it.

Id consider buying it but it should be no more than 1200 dollars on account of it being fullHD.

"An F/11.0 lens on this camera will light the pixels as much as an F/1.4 lens on a standard full frame camera"

Sounds great. But how is this physically possible if you only increase pixel size?
