(unknown member): The thing that gets me about this underspecified and overpriced camera getting a Gold Award is DPR's previous statements on how seriously they take their awards - that even if ONE person makes a buying decision based on their awards or reviews, they consider their jobs worth it. Yet, this camera with poor JPEGs, average or below average RAWs, mediocre DR, leisurely AF, and average video that costs $5000 gets Gold. I'm sure in some bizzare universe this is good buying advice, just not this one. It seems the default award for Leica is Gold unless Leica proves otherwise. Here, the camera was unable to prove otherwise though it wasn't for lack of trying!

DPR Awards are photographic travesties.

mais51: Many years ago everyone carried a P&S now everyone carries a cell phone - you don’t see any camera let alone DSLR or fixed lens camera in any social gathering - only the very rich would carry a $5000 P&S.

@mais51:
I think you meant $5,000 POS, not P&S. 😉

princecody: How can you give it a gold star without a tilting screen?

And an unsharp lens and front-focus problem.

Carey is an unabashed Leica-slut though, lol. And that obviously explains the score and Gold. 😹

sigala1: Do people pay $5000 for a camera to shoot JPEG? I don't think so.

Leica shooters don't know how to RAW-process. They don't know anything about photography. If they did, they'd be shooting different gear.

mepaca: The comparison chart says that the original Q does not have image stabilization. It indeed does. I have had a Q2 on preorder since March 12 so hopefully I will get it before the end of the year.

Carey, while you're at it don't forget to correct the first digit of the score to "6" and remove the accidental Gold Award.

gaul: Leica is now turning into the brand that youngsters want in their smartphone..

"Oi bro, ain't that 299 $ phone got 4 Leica lenses?"..

Heard that in the equivalent of a Bestbuy last week-end?

Leica is seriously cheapening its brand these days.. Soon it will be embarrassing to sport a Leica..

Carrying a Leica says 2 things about the carrier:

1) "I'm an incel."
2) "I'm a shameless poser."

I don't know if you're talking about Dan or Carey. But you're definitely not talking about the Q2.

Another painfully stupid camera from them. Another insulting price. Not even a red dot this time. Pppfffttt...

maccam: I have an Oben travel tripod and it is decidedly fiddly. Small, light, but sort of difficult to use. I use a small travel tripod just for waterfalls so I just ordered the aluminum Peak Design. If I need a larger tripod, I'll use my 35 year old Bogen 3020.

Bogen 3020. The unsung hero that makes no excuses decade after decade! I've got 2 of 'em :)

Man... $600 and $350... :O

I'd bet this Peak tripod is better, but for $65.95 on Amazon, the Slik Mini II is pretty flippin' awesome and I use it more than all my other tripods combined...

For me, Godox. 100%.

shawnphoto: Profoto is ridiculous charging a grand for a flash. But I have to thank them for making my Canon 600ex II look like a bargain.

Meh, native schmative... ;) I'm done with Nikon-brand speedlights.

I like the UI WAY better with Godox, plus I can use my Sony-hotshoed Godox flashes off-camera alongside my Nikon-hotshoed flashes with the same Godox controller (but if I use the Sony and Nikon together, flash sync can't be more than 1/200). And it's REALLY nice to have identical flashes (and UIs) on my Nikon and Sony cameras! Not having to learn a bunch of different brands/UIs is priceless! :)

And see? You have the AD200 so you know that "Canon" printed on a flash doesn't mean anything. Godox makes good stuff. :)

Thanks for the input. I'll give it a shot!

In reply to:

MikeRan: How come I can’t find a guide number? How powerful is this flash?

Not much difference, if any, when modified.

But check out the Godox Wistro for way more power, still at about half the price of an A1x.
