Looks like price agreements are legal in the United States ? 😉
Horshack: Highly recommend watching the PetaPixel podcast episode with Richard. Provided some nice behind-the-scenes info about what went on @ Dpreview the past few months.
I really wanted to watch the whole thing but stopped after a while. Already sad to see the thing start with a commercial plug and then a standard intro section, but the number of times Richard manages to say "you know" drove me nuts. Maybe some other time.
Great to see all the guys stay in touch and care about each other.
I mostly enjoyed Chris and Jordan's videos on DPReview so it's time I start watching them on PP.
Would be great to see how it handles film grain. That's no longer addressed in denoise app reviews.
Anybody try it out on film negatives ?
Congrats Jordan, that result tells you all you need to know about our appreciation of you and DPReview.
What a shocking disservice to photography, its education, art, the industry, people's jobs, hobby ... I cannot think of anything that has had this much of a negative impact. Really bad.
If pulling the plug on new content wasn't bad enough ... discontinuing the old content, reviews, news, forums for a company like Amazon with the amount of cloud storage they have available ... pulling the plug like this is a bloody disgrace. I hope they suffer loads of negative publicity over this.
Been trying to imagine what this means for a few hours now, still hard to imagine a world without DPReview and people having to do without it. Big thank you to the staff for 25 years of quality content.
What is best practice when digitizing film negatives, either with a scanner or digital camera ?
I guess film grain will always be there, but can the added digital noise be controlled with an ETTR-like technique, given that you're looking at the histogram with shadows on the right ? Anybody have experience with this ?
Video doorbell ads only vs other ads
I was just getting enthusiastic about Canon's entry level fullframe announcement when I got to the no IBIS and extremely poor battery life part. Those are dealbreakers for any serious photographer and who is Canon trying to target here ?
Sony's approach of keeping older models available would've made more sense here.
Final Is in title should be It
The first and last one are really nice, but the rest mostly suffers from being too stylized, no real emotion there.
thx1138: I would say based on this Canon is not cheating with the R3 and doing RAW NR in camera. It's showing more noise than the R6 at high ISO. This is good and what we expect from the pro series.
At very high ISO R5 and A1 downsampled to 24MP look a lot better than R3 IMO, more detail and finer grained noise. But R3 is better than A9II for sure. Still I expect A9III is coming next year.
Magnar W: I know all that. Have you compared the Colour Checker colour patches @ iso 3200 raw files ?

Most surprising to me is that the Sony A1 cannot match the Canon 5d classic (2005) at its maximum Iso setting (3200). I always use the 5d as an extra reference, since I started out with it.
I would like to see the PX hooked up with a studio lighting set and do a photo shoot with Jim Carrey.
Or place one in front of a wedding couple to capture the wedding ceremony part.
It would be great if actual pro sports shooters compared the cameras
