The shift to mirrorless was inevitable. Canon/Nikon accelerated that shift when they quit developing new DSLR models.

If they wanted to (they won't) couldn't Canon make an RF-S camera that's as thin as an M200? They could also make a fixed-lens compact camera based on the M200, but they probably will never do that ...
