super_claret: I find it hard to believe that Olympus has released this camera, aimed at professionals and I've just tried to use flash in high res mode and it won't fire. The flash fires perfectly in single shot mode. Other users are experiencing the same problem too.

It made my blood boil when the so called technician kept saying that he could not recommend third party products (such as studio flash and triggers), even though I had not asked him to recommend anything, I just wanted them to try firing a non Olympus flash via a PC sync or radio trigger in high res mode.

The whole experience has put me off Olympus, even though their lenses are superb. The high res shot worked perfectly on the EM5 Mk2, which I hired before purchase of the EM1 Mk2. Why this feature won't work on the new body is beyond me.

Decided to send the Olympus gear back, which was disappointing, but from a professional point of view, the Olympus UK support was pathetic and not what I expected after spending a fortune on 2 bodies and several lenses.

If Olympus are reading this, you need to really step up your level of support, especially when you are aiming a specific function (high res shot) at the professional studio photographer and this function cannot be used with studio lights!!!

Hi Ab, just checked and in SCP there is the FLASH setting which when selected it gives me 5 options. OFF, SLOW2, RED EYE & FILL IN. All options are available in all modes except when I go into HIGH RES SHOT. When in HIGH RES SHOT, the SCP shows, MANUAL FLASH and underneath that, there is an option to select the power output. Presumably, this would only apply when using an Olympus flash.

Just one thing to point out... have you enabled flash in silent mode? You can do this by going into MENU, CAMERA2, ANTI SHOCK/SILENT, SILENT MODE SETTINGS, FLASH MODE, ALLOW

I was right, the flash was indeed set to full. I tried again with the PC sync cable and flash set to full but no joy.

I'm sure that the flash was set to full in the SCP but I will do another test later today when I have the time. I'm pleased that you had the same problem in the camera store, as I was beginning to think I was doing something wrong.

Product photography and repro work is exactly what I want it for too. Speaking to Olympus UK and they have said ...

"the reason the flash won't fire is because high res shot is an Olympus specific mode and can only be used with Olympus flash"

I asked the question "why does the EM5 Mk2 fire studio flash with a radio trigger"? The response I got was "the EM5 Mk2 is a completely different camera to the EM1 Mk2"

Not having much luck with this one I'm afraid

Nothing to do with recharge delay. This camera will not trigger studio flash in high res mode via sync cable or radio trigger. I've tried 5 pin radio trigger, after Olympus told me that a single pin trigger would not work in high res shot (even though a single pin radio trigger fires flash in single shot)

I have had the same setup working in high res shot on an EM5 Mk2 and it works flawlessly, so cannot understand why it won't work on the EM1 Mk2.
