Nikon D3
Nikon D4
Sony a6000
back up camera, stays in pelican case
no surprise, my favorite camera of all time. most importantly, it's had the crucial 2 firmware updates that all new DSLRs seem to require in order to reach their full potential. waiting on D5 or possible D5S, but im still at the point where i am so happy with this camera, it is hard for me to ever imagine wanting to upgrade (of course that day will come)
the uzi of the camera world
Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8G ED
Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24mm f/1.4G ED
Nikon AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.4G
replaced the nikkor 17-35 for me and gave me a semi and group portrait length. i love this lens despite size and weight, must have for nikon system.
my personal favorite lens, despite semi-specialty status. its a pro lens, but it is amazing for kids at closer distances.
i love the rendering and bokeh of this lens. i pretty much only use it during the bridal prep time, when not using flash. but this lens is used for the bulk of my personal/family shooting.
Nikon AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II
Nikon AF-S Nikkor 85mm f/1.4G
Nikon PC-E Nikkor 45mm f/2.8D ED
you know the deal on this lens, must have.
2nd favorite lens of all time, by narrow narrow margin. pretty nice wide open at infinity, which is rare.
bought during the tilt-shift wedding photography craze of 2010. haha. i like using this handheld during engagement sessions, otherwise i dont even bring it to weddings.
Sony Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* E 24mm F1.8 ZA

i've been trying to justify this lens and it's predecessor for several years. ive rented it over a dozen times over the years, love this lens. every time i have enough capital to buy it with cash, a new must-have camera body comes out!!!

JonTafferOfPhotography's previous gear

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX9V
Canon PowerShot S100
Fujifilm X100S
absolute best small sensor compact of its generation
bought and only used for 24mm equiv. sold on ebay after about 6 months
easily the most over hyped camera ever made. returned
Fujifilm X20
Nikon Coolpix A
Nikon Coolpix S02
I loved this camera, but ultimate it was too big. ebay
bought and basically never used. ebay
gave to my 2yo, she broke it in 45 seconds, awesome camera for what it is
Nikon D2X
Nikon D100
Nikon D700
greatest crop sensor DSLR of it's generation. soold on ebay to make room for d3
my first DSLR. shot along side my nikon F100 for several years. back up and family camera, ebay to make room for d700.
shot over 100 weddings and 350,000 exposures, 2 trips to nikon for refurb, then sold on ebay for 60% of what it cost 4 years prior. one of the great nikon cameras of all time.
Sony Alpha NEX-5N
Nikon 1 V1
Sony a7
my first mirrorless, nice landscape and portrait camera. i bought this during a time when e-mount glass was pretty slim pickings, and basically never used it. gave to my dad along with 18-55 after about a year
bought on firesale. amazing camera at base ISO. sold on ebay after about a year.
high hopes, but returned after 1 day after waiting for months for delivery. performs much more like a compact than a DSLR, other than IQ. low light focus misses more than it hits. and don't tell me about some magical firmware update that has fixed this by now. no, it has not.
Nikon AF Nikkor 24mm f/2.8D
Nikon AF Nikkor 35mm f/2D
Nikon AF-S Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8D ED-IF
small light, slow'ish prime. owned for about a decade. nice from f/4 and outstanding at f/8.
small light, slow'ish (useless at f/2) prime. owned for about a decade. nice from f/4 and outstanding at f/8.
held on to for about 7 years. A+ lens, one of the great nikkors. would love to see a new version, despite the 24-70 replacing my main use of this lens (i shoot people, and rarely wider than 24mm)
Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.4D
Nikon AF Nikkor 85mm f/1.4D
Nikon AF-Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8D ED
small light, fast prime. owned for about a decade. nice from f/2.2 and outstanding at f/4.
you know the deal on this lens. one of the lenses people shoot nikon to have.
my most used pro lens in its day, funny how i never complained about flare, lack of stabilization, and AF speed back then. these days i cannot imagine shooting short/mid tele zooms without nano/VR/ring-type AF-S.
Sony E 50mm F1.8 OSS
shockingly slow and horrible AF on a6000. below acceptable for me, returned for sony zeiss 55mm.
