  • Exactly! What we see as video, pigeons would see as a series of still images with missing colours. RGB is enough for our limited human senses, as discovered and demonstrated by the great James ...
  • You’d imagine they would be aiming at a price point well below a Leica M, or there wouldn’t seem much of a commercial case for such a camera. With digital technology, eventually silicon replaces ...
  • It is always possible that the lens could have a fault where there is a heavy power drain when the shutter is released, causing the power supply voltage to "sag", and preventing the shutter motor ...
  • Created discussion thread New global-shutter camera
A French firm has announced that they are developing a "contemporary rangefinder" digital camera, using the Leica M mount: Pixii Website Detail on the specs is curiously patchy, but two things they ...
  • It was commented on earlier in the thread. For some reason the only information provided is “pixel size” of 5.5 μm. As you say, no sensor size or resolution is given, but 5.5 μm pixels would be ...
  • Not meant as sarcastic at all - sorry if it came across that way. I like the idea of a digital camera with a decent optical viewfinder / rangefinder and no Live View or screen. The most recent set ...
  • Sounds marvelous!
  • Global shutter is interesting if it really is a FF sensor. Modern “focal plane” shutters can be quite a bit away from the focal plane, and they act like an asymmetrical extra stop in the optical ...
  • Looks wonderful - some very influential photographers!
  • The pixel size is quoted as 5.5 μm. That is similar to a 24 MP FF sensor, or a 12 MP APS-C sensor.
  • Replied in Detroit Smokes
I love the wonderful mythology of Leica lenses, but “residual spherical aberration” and “focus shift” are actually different terms for the same thing!
  • Replied in Detroit Smokes
I know the aperture guesstimation is flakey, but out by three stops!?! I thought with the M10 they’d given up on the idea. Sounds like they should, as it is worse than useless.

I think you’re right. The bright light source just out of frame has probably fooled the system. If it was f/4 then if you add up the extra headroom and the exposure compensation it brings the shot ...
  • Replied in Detroit Smokes
Really f/4 or just a Leica EXIF quirk? If f/4 you could have shot it with Tri-X and got an authentic old-school gritty look.
  • Unfortunately it is not practical to adapt an M-mount lens for use on an SLR. The SLR mirror would cause a mechanical interference with the rear elements of the lens.
  • And if you don’t like the weather in Melbourne, come back in 10 minutes. :-)

  • You have scored what many people consider the finest of the "classic" Summicron 50mm lenses. Well played!
  • I always enjoy your surreal scenes. The first and third photographs have difficult low / mixed lighting that would cause most photographers to put away their cameras and head to the bar, but you ...
  • Possibly you have a beautiful "dual-range" 50mm Summicron. This was designed with two distinct focus ranges: normal and close-up. The close-up range is designed to be used with a special ...
  • Superceded by touch screen AF?
