Matsu's current gear

Nikon D800
Nikon D810
Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX8
Now the best full frame value going. Still preferable to non-AA filter versions for portraiture.
needs to get more use
Nikon AF-S Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G ED
Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8G ED
Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm F1.8G
Tried the others and it still beats them all on overall balance of performance. Nothing is as wide and sharp, wide open at f/2.8.
Cheap and more than a little cheerful. compact and excellent for the price. stop down to f/2.8 and it's on par with optics costing thousands more.
Nikon AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm F2.8E FL ED VR
Nikon AF-S Nikkor 85mm F1.8G
Panasonic Lumix G 20mm F1.7 II ASPH
Best lens of its kind. Smokes all but the very newest primes/exotics in the same range, which is a short list limited to 105E, 135 Art, and 200 f/2VR.
Better than all the other Nikon 85s in most conditions except contra light, where it will flare more than the 1.4s. The best price performance bargain for short tele primes, on any system.
I like it on a GX8. The 40mm equivalent field of view is something I like.
Other gear:
  • Nikon SB 700
  • Nikon SB 800 4X
  • Pocket Wizard TT1
  • Pocket Wizard TT5
  • Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 HSM Macro

Matsu's previous gear

Nikon D300
Nikon D7000
Nikon AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR
My first DSLR. Excellent reliable. Since surpassed by a number of consumer cameras. Loudest shutter snap of any camera I ever used.
Nice sensor. Inconsistent indoor AF.
Nikon AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II
Nikon AF Nikkor 85mm f/1.8D
Sharp, good. But the 1.8G is better. AF sounded and felt rough spinning through the gears.
