On article Google shares high-resolution Pixel 2 sample photos (171 comments in total)

I opened up these images on my 21" monitor and was very impressed with their resolution and overall quality considering that no post-processing is involved and remembering that we are talking about a SMART PHONE. If you blow up the the one with the hat and the girl with bubble gum you find that the sharpness is more than acceptable for a very decent print upto A4 size - what more should one ask for from this device. And let me ask you how many out there have actually printed anything, from any source, to A4 ! And if you are into exhibition scale of things then you are looking at the wrong gadget to help in this direction.

On article Throwback Thursday: Our first cameras (394 comments in total)

I was in Honk Kong late in 1967 and walking down a subway came across a gigantic [must have been larger than 8 feet in height) tack sharp monochrome photo pasted on the wall of an ancient Chinese - almost toothless, wispy haired and fully wrinkled - a small mention in the lower right credited 'Pentax Spotmatic' for the shot. The same day I picked one up with the classic SMC F1.4 screw mount lens. It has lived with me till today and although the shutter has a slight whine, it still works beautifully even if you have to center the needle to get the proper exposure ! But getting a roll of film processed and printed costs today more than the camera did 50 years ago so it does not get to see much action except when I want to demo what photography was all about back then to my classes.

The original Pentax Spotmatic with screw type 1.4/50mm lens. Got it in 1959 and it still works !!! The lens is one of the finest ever made and at that time The Hong Kong airport was show casing 9' x 12' enlargements that were tack sharp.

“…the only major barrier to fast and efficient operation is the relegation of movie shooting to the exposure mode dial.” Seriously is the time difference between turning the mode dial and pressing a button to enter the movie function all that relevant – you are talking about an extra second at the most !

I found the HDR in my Pentax Kr worked better - and hassle-free.

Since there is an issue with the quality control for Pentax lenses I am assuming that this is only with the glass coming out of their Vietnam unit - if so is there anyway one can find out the origin of mfg. before buying the lens ?

If DPR suggested better glass than the 18-55 kit lens for the K7 would this not be even more relevant for the K30. So what would be a "matching" walk-about lens for this camera?
