'eworthington', on 08.18.17 came here from nowhere, posted the OP message in this thread... and disappeared... forever. Never came back. Mystery?

... And I remember leaving for a 1 week vacation (1999) with 2 boxes of (recycled) floppy disks packed into the suitcase. This would allow me to take around one hundred 1MP (highly compressed ...

Impossible to reply, without introducing any acceptability criterion.

Are you sure that just ONE f/stop more light can make the difference (for your specific needs)? (Maybe yes - Maybe not).

There are several versions of the 80-200 F72.8 D. Mine is an 'older' (push-pull zoom) one: From: photosynthesis.co.nz Used it mainly for theatre / concert stage photography (wide open in low light). ...

Where did you get that the Nikkor 24-120 is not an excellent lens? Mine is a lens that I will never regret buying.

Using myself a 12MP FX I can't but agree on the 'relative' importance of sensor 'nominal' resolution. But then: why to buy a D850? Do you agree that an FX camera in DX mode doesn't do much sense?
-
Perspective view is often (incorrectly) referred to as 'distortion'.
-
But for your wife using a D850 body , the correct comparison would be between a 45MP image (from the 24-120) and a 19.5MP image (from the 16-80 in DX crop mode). No benefit from the former?

Yours shall be the CP990 - CP995 cannot use std. AA batteries! Do you have any pics from it to show?
-
The new battery arrived yesterday. Utterly expensive: 25€ including VAT and express delivery. However, higher nominal capacity than the 'original' one: 5.9 v/s 4.8 Wh :-) It took a long time to get ...

Not just that! In 'macro' focus mode you can get your subject as near as 20 mm from the lens, with the small focal length still allowing a decent DOF: Interesting. Never tried that.

Hmm... did you clean the contacts?

And here is an E995 pano of mine, 15 years old (almost to the day!) Glaciar Perito Moreno - Patagonia Argentina Actual Capture Date: 01-24-2004!

Unfortunately, the old battery can keep charge for only 2 minutes :-(. Waiting for a new compatible one, already ordered :-) . BTW: I still have WC-E63 and TC-E2: 24 to 300 mm eq. :-D

No, its sensor is (unfortunately) much smaller (1/1.8") than Nikon 1 or Sony RX100! However, a good idea. Let's know it it still works! Myself, I ordered a new compatible Li-ion battery from Duracell.
-
I know: Nikon changed power source from 4 std. AA (990) to proprietary Li-ion rechargeable battery (995). :-(

Yes, mine was a good choice, at that time. It allowed me to grow as a digital photographer, for a few years... Now the battery took enough charge to allow me to quickly check that menu, electrical ...
