What a waste. Any budget? How about including a $75 Slik Sprint? Sirui and Benro make some nice tripods that would fit into prices between the ones listed too. I carry a Benro Slim CF, mostly...

I had better results last night with a 150 f3.5, although it wasn't as clear. The issue really seems to have been the small aperture of the 50-230. I'll try the setting you recommended though.

Yes, I was using my slowest lens, f6.7. That may have been the mistake. I have an old Nikon 75-150/3.5 that would probably be a good choice too.

Yes, in hindsight I had a MF Nikon 300mm f4 with me, I should have used that. If it's clear again tonight maybe I'll try it.

I guess I've done most of my night photography with older Nikon lenses (and optical viewfinders), but I've focused all the way to the stop before without issue. This is less of an issue now since ...
-
Yeah, I suppose I should have just focused on a bright star and then left it alone. I'm not used to lenses focusing past infinity.

I went out last night to photograph Neowise, it was the first clear night to the north that we've had for the last week. It was harder than I expected. I had two main issues & am interested in ...

What kind of a pack do you use for running with it? I don't have a 27, but I've been thinking about picking one up. Running with it would be a big plus.

One other comment on the 50-230. Its optical performance surprised me, but the OIS also works really well. I can handhold this at ~1/30 at 200mm, and I don't have the steadiest hands. This helps a ...

Caveat: I'm biasing this towards bang for the buck, as requested. You can buy higher quality more expensive lenses, but these are the ones I added after the 18-55. For portraits I like the 35 f/2, ...

I used a Tokina 100-300 F4 on a mirrorless (Sony) for a while. Honestly the size was just too much for what I was using it for. I'd previously used it on a Nikon DSLR, and really liked it, but the ...

Sort of. I used that when I realized there wasn't a disable custom setting - I'd customized C1 & reset it to defaults & will use this as the Base setting. I was looking for something that seems ...
-
Oh, it was. I reset it & that's where it wound up. I'd hoped film simulation was treated differently than other custom settings (so I could reset everything but that), but it isn;t
-
Yeah, that's what I'll do. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. As I said I thought it would have a default + 7 custom settings. I was hoping to have a way to reset everything ...

Thanks, that's what I've done now. I pretty much only shoot jpg, that was one reason I switched to Fuji. It made more sense to me that there'd be an on/off as well, but it looks like no.

I've started playing with the custom settings on the X-T30 to try out some of the many film profiles people have published. One thing isn't clear to me is whether there's a way to use NONE of the ...
