  • Created discussion thread VGA camera
After using a smart mobile for several years I have gone back to a feature phone - Nokia 5310 - for many reasons. Out of curiosity I tried the VGA camera and like the results: it obviously won't ...
  • I sold this lens this afternoon as I only really like the lens when it is stopped down to about f/8. For some reason I don't really get on with zoom lenses so when I need a wide angle lens I will ...
  • I meant to use Psychedelica as I was was using psychedelic electronic sounds in music at the time. For some reason I misspelt it and now it can't be changed.
  • Replied in Humans...
I did. I went into Central London most days for several weeks and photographed deserted streets; sometimes I felt as if there were only one or two humans left in the city. Not only did it keep me ...
  • Replied in Dutch angle
I suppose this is technically not a good photograph but I think it is a contemporary style and suits the subject - an experimental band. It's the second image down with them sitting on a grass slope: ...
  • Many thanks for all your replies, I now have an understanding of the lens' strengths and weaknesses. Stopped down the lens is much better but at f/4 it seems soft to me. Here is an image at 21mm f/8: ...
  • Replied in Idiot proof?
Unfortunately you are exactly right. It seems the more foolproof things become the less people use their common sense. Nothing to do with photography but my wife was asked if there were any ...

  • Rubbish bags and dustbins everywhere. I photographed Carnaby Street, London, during lockdown which was deserted and eerie, yet there was a dustbin every ten yards or so. The photograph was as much ...
  • Agreed. The problem is the residents in Soho made the effort to clean it up and make it a good place to live. Then the property companies moved in and made it unaffordable. Until about the late ...
  • Created discussion thread Soho London in the 1950s
Interesting photographs from the period, although don't romanticise that time; it was packed with hardened criminals, spivs and bent police. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/galleries/article-8638787/Th ...
  • Many thanks for that. I have now learnt how to create the effect in FCP X. I like the effect when not using vertical video but using a horizontal video and blurring out the sides.
  • Created discussion thread How to get this effect?
I have also seen this on a news programme in England. The other question is: will it quickly become dated? The effect begins around 1:09: https://youtu.be/_XizsfB95UQ?t=69
  • The songs I have heard from Folklore are really good. In the context of the song those lines work, although I know the allusion to Wordsworth has irritated some people. However I have not read ...
  • If it is in really good condition I would buy it for that price. I use a Canon 5D mark 2 which I really like. You may eventually have to upgrade some of your lenses though.
  • People can photograph what they like but I find yoga poses in front of exotic locations, usually at dusk or sunrise so they are in shadow, overdone. Not that it's relevant to the creativity of the ...
  • Thanks for the link. I got the 17-40L sometime ago; I was using an APS-C camera, and it was on special promotion at the time. Now I'm on full frame and have seen how much better a 35mm prime looks ...
  • Created discussion thread Replace 17-40mm zoom with 24mm?
This may have been discussed before but I can't find any references. Because I used the 35mm focal length so much I bought a Zeiss 35mm lens which I really like. My question is, would the Canon ...
  • It is certainly strange and personally I don't like the effect but Taylor Swift works to a really high standard and some of her videos appear to have a large budget. She doesn't appear to make ...
  • Created discussion thread Taylor Swift - Betty
I usually watch videos with superimposed lyrics as I like to know what the singer is singing. This is a song I like by Taylor Swift but the video judders and takes some getting used to: it uses a ...
