Appreciate the acknowledgement, it is a brilliant camera - we've just got to get the rear lcd transmitted to the viewfinder for Mirrorless mode..............
John McMillin: Now I recall what that rear screen support system reminds me of! My old "Baby Linhof" 6x7 field camera had a film back that could be extended from the body at each of the four corners, tilting the back for some perspective DOF control. This Pentax seems to use the same kind of telescoping support rods for a different purpose, to provide live view at odd angles.
It will be the wrong sensor for video but no compromise for stills.
Missaghi: the camera body looks great, the lcd screen not too sure, i guess have to wait and see.
Just leave it in the body.
1shot: Unlike many others, it seams. I like the four strut screen swivel. It seams really durrable to me, as if it were struck from almost any possible direction a couple of those struts would simply yield and the screen would collapse into its recess rather than breaking. I do feel it adds quite a bit of bulk though. What someone really needs to do is create one that folds solidly to the top of the camera allowing it to be bodied up at waist level. I believe Sony did this with an older fixed lens camera called the r1 or something. That was the smartest lcd swivel ever designed, so why did they stop. Well, that's Sony for you, clinging irrationally long to their bad ideas(memory stick), while constantly killing their good ones.
You don't think it will do that?
Clyde Thomas: Not messing around here Pentax. Looking good.
But I fail to see how waist level vertical shots can be accomplished with that LCD movement. As a vertical fashion portraitist, that would kind of be a deal breaker for me. Love that feature on Sony a99.
Easy!
Pandimonium: So anybody got any idea about the mystery rubber rimmed unmarked right dial?
It adjusts what you have selected on the evf/overlay dial.

You use them while looking through the viewfinder.
Lmendy: Sort of reminds me of the old 6X7 updated with digital. Sure would be nice if Pentax would come out with the old 6X7 that would use all those old lenses and have the same format at 50+ megapixels.
I'm tipping 42mp and Pixel shift will step it up to the next level again.
PhotoKhan: From a confirmed intended product in September 2014 to a unit behind a glass in October 2015, to be launched in the spring of 2016, if the latest postponement is to be trusted.
...They're unstoppable ;)
Good things come to those who wait.
onlooker: I'm seeing nothing next to the thumb position that would help with quick AF point movement. Do you have to move your hand and operate those four buttons at the bottom? That's not particularly quick or ergonomic.
Yes keep your eye to the viewfinder and use you thumb on the 4 way contoller - diagonally as well.
I think we have most of it figured out the only question I have is "Is the the rear lcd a wifi/touch screen and is it detachable from the mount by pressing those 2 pivot tabs?
Boss of Sony: I thought DSLRs were a dying breed. Won't this FF mean that every lens Pentax has developed in the last 10-15 years will be cropping the sensor?
No there is over 25 million FF lenses out there that can be used many current + some recent APSc.
Many current DA & DA*s cover FF all current DFAs are FF.
ozdean: With that viewfinder overlay dial and all the other goodies this has to be the innovation of the year.
Release will be March I'm guessing they are waiting for sony to release the 42mp BSI to them
Knobs are placed so you don't have to take your eye from the viewfinder to adjust overlay settings - all we asked for and more.
Yep it will happen, Sony make great sensors and the plus with Pentax now is Hi Res Pixel shift which goes to another level of IQ again.

Daryl I think Sony want to keep it to themselves for 6 months, it looks to be a great sensor. Nikon may have a deal to get it earlier?
If they were to use the 36 it would be released now IMO, but better to wait.
I think Zvonimir has hit the nail on the head pretty well re that evf dial.
DanK7: I guess it's inevitable. I've gone from K7 to K5 to K3.... Pentax controls have always been very intuitive (to me). Very glad to see the little green button remain. Next to the shutter release - my fav. What do you think the bottom button of the 4-way toggle is for (not flash)? A crop button, perhaps? Or maybe more likely a display choice for LCD and EVF?
That's the Hi Res Pixel shift button

What lens was used on the Pentax it seems lacking, CA and poor corners?
The lens used on the Nikon is brilliant.
I just realized the DA*55 - the results are surprisingly poor?
I think the dfa50 would have been more suitable for a scene like this.
That is a great shot, I'd title it "Mums Got It" and enter it in a comp that pays well.
Yes keen to hear your thoughts on the K3.
Boy the IIs really shines as iso increases!
