Congratulations! Lots of good advice in this thread.  I'll just add, do take some b&w shots in natural light, too.  You will get some wonderful shots of baby's face, and his soft body contours.

I would really appreciate this - macro, with tubes etc. sounds probably more complicated than it is, but this is what puts me off trying.  I love macro photos, it is another, hidden, world.
