Mister Anders0n: Still see zero reason to switch to Z. If I ever go ML, it probably won't be with Nikon, anyway.

only an idiot would spend his time telling people he doesnt know what they need.
you remind me of a crazy street evangelist screaming at people that do their best to avoid you.

visualenvy: The arrangement gives a hint to the aperture of the lenses.

Fasted at the top, slowest at the bottom.

28mm and 40mm compacts will most likely be f2.8
60mm and 105mm micro will be f2.8
24-105mm will be f4
100-400 will be f4-f5.6
18-140 will be f3.5-5.6/6.3
24-200 will be f4-5.6/6.3
200-600 will be f5.6/f5.6-6.3

just my predictions..

they have to design each lens with cost in mind. the fact that a lens mount has the ability to support really large apertures doesnt mean that every lens should be 2 or 3 stops faster. sure they can make a 28-200 f2.8/4 but if its going to be so heavy, and so expensive that no one will buy it, then wth is the use in that? the same people that complain that some of these mega zooms arent fast enough are the same people that will complain that nikon never makes compact lenses, or that they are way overpriced. you cant make everyone happy, and some people will never be happy no matter what.

Nicolas Alexander Otto: Way too conservative in my opinion. Other than the 14-30 f/4 there is nothing really interesting here. Canon is building a 15-35 f2.8 with 82 Filter thread a 24-70 f/2 and is innovating a bit. But looking at that Z road map I get the feeling we only get the same old same old. What do you guys think?

where are the 23-74 f2.2 and the 68-205 f1.8's? im with you, i like my numbers different from time to time.

At this point I will never even look at a Sony camera because so many of their users are vile af.

and if you think its only sony camera fans, go check out how bad they are about the sony playstations. sony learned a lot in their video game console marketing, and they have moved it along to their camera marketing team point for point.

same. i cant support any company that supports (actively or not) a group of f$&^wads as annoying as the small percentage of sony shooters that spend more time in the comment sections than touching their camera.

so youre saying that the image quality from the z7 are no better than film scans? that can be good and bad, but either way you are reaching at best. or are you saying that this lens creates images that look like film scans? thats even more ridiculous. what exactly are you talking about? do you know?

If it is true why it is so expensive.
Ok it is zeiss name I will give the name 100$
And the rest must be for a lens on par with sigma Art.

and ferrari are made by fiat? and lamboghini are a vw with a neat body kit? this argument is dddumb. please, go buy a tamron.

get good.

Einride: Stunning amount of Sony trolls in the comments. It's incredible. No fans from other brands are like this. I very seldomly see Canon, Fujifilm, Panasonic or other fans behaving like this. Why is it? Are Sony users more insecure than others? I'm honestly curious. It doesn't matter whether I am reading news about Nikon or Canon or Olympus. The comments are always plagued by all these Sony people. What gives?

@T3 nothing you have said has anything to do with why a nikon thread is constantly filled with weird antagonism from people that use sony cameras. it has nothing to do with what cameras they used in the past, its the fact that they use sony cameras now.
maybe what you are stating is that all assholes eventually end up using sony cameras in the end? im not sure. all that it takes is a trip through every single nikon or canon threads comment section to see. and you are in about 90% of them.

seloo: If Canon sensors and bodies were so bad then a very large portion of professionals are idiots who are also poor because their Sony using counterparts have already scooped up all available jobs tendered by patrons crying out loud "Sony shot photographs or nothing". Meanwhile the Canon pro society are sleeping under bridges begging for a penny and insist on keeping their Canon gear. Shame on you Canon.

idk. its not usually canon users that i see on other brands threads trying to diss tbh.

Nice, I see 3 rings, so guessing one will be programmable.

honestly theyve been talking about control rings since the cameras were announced several months ago. i doubt if anyone has a clue who was copying who.

GodSpeaks: I was shooting the Mamiya 645AFD when Nikon announced the D800/E cameras. I sold off my entire MF kit and bought the Nikon D800E, a decision I have NOT regretted. Plus the 645AFD sensor was larger (2xFF) than the current Fuji MF sensors. As an old medium format shooter, what is needed is a FF 645 sensor, not these play MF crop sensors.

i have printed dozens of 42x36in prints from a mamiya 7 scanned with my microtek film scanner. i never saw the need for drum scans. im sure id be spoiled if i did, and id probably have to go pay someone to rescan everything.

BikesandSkis: As a technology product manager, and a smartphone and GoPro Hero 7 owner who is currently looking to get back into photography via adventure/sports, this doesn't surprise me at all. Shopping for a camera has been incredibly frustrating as all of the manufacturers seem to intentionally omit certain features on certain cameras, seemingly hoping people will buy and carry more than one camera. All this while cell phone manufacturers are doing just the opposite - aiming to make their one device the best it can be for the most uses.

All I want is a camera that produces great results with reasonable effort (focus, image quality, stabilization, 4 season use) without dragging around a bunch of extra gear (tripods/gimbals/microphones) on a 30 mile mountain bike ride or a 10 mile hike.

Where does this leave the consumer? Empowered to throw their hands up in the air and buy the newest iPhone because "it just works".

pretty much every camera maker makes cameras that tick off all of your needs. the canon has no ibis though, and the sony isnt really weatherproof. the only confusing part is picking which one you want. or if you just want to use your phone.

sunilkumar: i think at f 1.8 sigma is gathering more light than Nikon and overexposed. My take is that is taking away the contrast.
If you set the same settings you will see different histograms.
I have noticed with other Nikon DSLR lenses (specifically F 1.8), that their actual exposure is 2.2 when you set lens to 1.8. I have verified this with Sigma 35 1.4 ART and Nikon 50 1.4 G(Compared to 50 1.8G).

i have never tested for exposure with my 2 50's. if the t stops dont equate to more light actually coming in on the sigmas, i wonder what else could cause the overexposure. i belive you, just curious what would make that happen.

SidneyVision: I was just watching the Sony presentation of the A6400. They talked about their reliance on their army of “Internet Influencers”. I believe most on the Internet call them something else.

So am I surprised that a comment section on a Nikon lens is filled with negative comments from a few Sony people? People who try to convince us that Barney, Rishi, and Jim are not to be believed. Not after watching what Sony said.

This lens deserves the Gold Award. For the price, it beats other mirrorless lenses in the focal range. Nikon did well and deserves this praise.

makes a guy, and hopefully many people, feel like buying anything sony only feeds the trolls. i know what i wont be spending my money on in the future. itll make my list of 65" 4k tv's a little smaller.

the thing that i dont understand is why people go onto their "enemy" camera brand to begin with. its borderline sociopathic. is there a thrill to be had, going into some other companies reviews and trying to drum up some bad press about them? am i missing something? i see the same names in these threads over and over, and they have nothing good to say about anything. i really hope its for money, and not because it makes them tingle. :)

john Clinch: So did this lens benefit from being designed around a larger mount?

My hunch is that it did

thats only because that is what everyone is buying. the art lenses have been selling like hotcakes, and if nikon didnt make a lens that wasnt better, people would complain about that. damned if they do and damned if they dont, some people live to complain. this lens is heavy compared to a G series 50 but nowhere near as big and heavy as the sigmas.
