  • I’ve already got an 85mm f/1.8 and the 70-200 compresses the background well enough.
  • It’s a little out of the budget currently and I also prefer DLSR to mirrorless. I know the Z6 has some advantages but it’s not my cup of tea.
  • Thanks, y’all. I would imagine the only thing I’d really gain would be better DOF and I’d have slightly more bokeh. I personally like to separate my subjects from the background as much as ...
  • Created discussion thread Adding an FX camera
I came here to ask you all a question of adding a D750 to my D7200. Would you consider it a good choice to add an FX body to my DX setup? I would mainly use this camera as my portrait setup and ...
  • I’ll leave you with two suggestions. 1. Sell the Sigma 18-35 and get a good used 17-55 and then pick up an 85 f1.8G. Very sharp and you’d have two AWESOME lenses and range. 2. Just get the 16-80. ...
  • Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8. Sharp, good range on DX, well built, holds its value on used market. I don’t know why people just skip over countless mint copies of this lens on eBay. I got mine for $420 USD.
  • Replied in My portraiture
It’s the momentum statue at TAMUCC. She wanted it like this so I took it. I also had some like the crop you did but I didn’t have to crop.

I'd maybe take a look at the Thule Covert DSLR Backpack. I just picked mine up on Amazon for a good price. It holds all the gear that I have in my signature as well as an area on top for A LOT!
  • Created discussion thread My portraiture
Here are some images that I've picked out as some of my favorite shots from some portrait shoots I've done over the past month. I'm still learning. In my infancy in terms of portraiture knowledge. ...
  • I think you'd be okay with a D7200. I'd go for a refurbished body and then put the rest of your money toward an 85mm f/1.8G. I've got that lens and I love it for portraits and intimate shots. I ...
  • Stefana, I'd look into a used Nikon 12-24mm, Nikon 18-35mm, or even a nice used 17-55mm. The 17-55 will be heavy but it's built exceptionally well and is very good optically. I know it's not the ...
  • Created discussion thread 70-200 VR II Graduation
Hey all, i just wanted to share some images I took that I did some light edits to in LR. I have a TON of images but these are of kids I knew or worked with in the three years I’ve known them. I ...
  • nsacky, Let me first tell you that the 17-55 is without a doubt a must if you have a DX body or even a D800 series in DX mode. Moving on... I think you'll find that a D7200 or D7500 will be worthy ...
  • Replied in 70-200 options
Would any of you take a mint version I of the 70-200 VR over the Tamron G2 if it was priced under the G2? I am considering it. I've found a mint copy of the 70-200 f/2.8 VR v.1 for under 1k USD.
  • I think you'll find enough goodies in the FL version of the 70-200. The 80-200 has been a great lens for a very long time but now the gap in performance has been increased with the current version ...
  • Replied in Thanks all
Luckily my gear is pretty solid and it performs very well. Could I have the best gear? Sure but I'd only have like one lens haha. I think I follow what you're saying but I am a little unclear. ...
  • Replied in Thanks all
I would just like to thank everyone that has provided some insight to my dilemma. I feel as if I’ve gained some good knowledge and options from you guys who have provided quality feedback on this ...
  • I just want to thank you guys for the insight you’ve given me. I feel that with the D7200, it’s got what I need and I’ll probably get another one. Conditions I’m currently shooting in are ...
  • I know. I have a feeling I’m going to settle for DX for now and then when I’m closer to getting into FX, I’ll get a 24-70 f/2.8 and a 35 f/1.8G to replace my DX. Looks like a 70-200 for now and ...
  • Thank you all for responding! I shoot sports indoors when it comes to volleyball and my D7200 seems adequate for now. I think I'll pick up a 70-200 before another D7200. I will use two bodies when ...
