Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1R II
Sony a7R III
Sony a9
Terrific travel camera.
I think this is the camera I was hoping for when I purchased the A7R five years ago. :) So far, I am extremely pleased with it.
Love this camera!! It puts a smile on my face every time I use it compared to any other camera I have used (possibly excepting the A99II). You can see all the other cameras I have owned and extensively shot, below.
Canon EF 35mm F1.4L II USM
Sigma 105mm F1.4 DG HSM Art
Sigma 40mm F1.4 DG HSM Art
I have shot a number of f1.4 35mm lenses. I shot the Sigma 35mm ART for four years, the Sony FE 35mm f1.4 for two years (4 copies to get a good one) and now a year with this lens. This Canon lens is nothing short of stunning, with incredible sharpness across the frame, almost no CA's and a nice rendering (much better than the Sigma and not quite as good as the Sony, although very close). I would prefer a native FE lens, but the IQ is so good on this lens and I get good Eye Focus with the A7RIII and MBIV.
The newest lens in my stable. In my limited use it appears to be outstanding; however, it is really heavy... not a travel lens. :) I like the compression of he 135mm ART, but will use this lens when space is more limited. Update: Having shot several portrait sessions, now, this lens is absolutely killer!
This lens is stunning. Have a look at the LensRentals tests. If I could only shoot two lenses for portraits, it would be this lens and the GM135mm
Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG HSM Art
Sony 1.4x Teleconverter (2016)
Sony FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS
I think I have shot every full-frame 85mm f1.4/1.2 lens out there and this one tops them all for sharpness across the field wide-open. I use it for local, critical shoots where size/weight doesn't matter. For travel, I use the Batis 85.
This lens is outstanding! Very sharp lens at 400mm. I think it is sharper than the excellent Canon 100-400mm II that I had.
Sony FE 135mm F1.8 GM
Sony FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM
Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM
What can I say... this lens is nearly flawless.
Great lens!! Sold my outstanding Canon 16-35mm f2.8 III and I did not give anything up. I cannot believe how light and compact this f2.8 lens is.
Excellent lens. As nice as this lens is, I tend to shoot fast primes in this focal range, so it mostly sits in my lens cabinet.
Sony FE 24mm F1.4 GM
Sony FE 55mm F1.8 ZA Carl Zeiss Sonnar T*
Sony FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS
My newest lens addition. It's almost difficult to comprehend such great performance in such as small light lens!
One of my travel lenses. For critical work, the Sony FE 50mm f1.4 ZA provides a bit more contrast and 'bite'.
It took two tries to obtain a good copy, but this second lens actually beats the sharpness of the Canon 70-200mm f2.8 II that I had at 200mm f2.8. This lens is excellent.
Sony FE 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 G OSS
Sony FE 90mm F2.8 Macro G OSS
Sony Planar T* FE 50mm F1.4 ZA
Excellent lens. I use this lens for travel, when combined with the GM 16-35mm f2.8 & 55mm f1.8.
Excellent lens. Great overall sharpness and contrast and good colors. Focuses fast on A7RIII.
This lens is amazingly sharp wide-open!! It almost makes my excellent 55mm f1.8 look soft at f1.8. Lens contrast wide-open is outstanding. I no longer miss my old Sigma 50mm f1.4 ART as I think this lens is better, overall. This might be my favorite Sony lens in terms of sharpness.
Zeiss Batis 85mm F1.8
The small size & light weight, combined with great sharpness, make this a great travel and general purpose lens, although the bokeh can be a bit contrasty for my taste. Today, I would just buy the Sony 85mm f1.8.
Other gear:
  • Rokinon 12mm F2.8 ED AS IF NCS UMC Fisheye A fun lens to shoot for cityscapes.
  • Voigtlander 40mm f1.2 E-Mount Really like this lens, so far.
