Olympus Tough TG-2 iHS
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 III
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 IV
Great point 'n shoot camera for my good wife!
Probably the best 24-600mm zoom lens in existence with a camera body to match!! I'm finding this camera to be great at almost everything from astro, nightscape thru daylight photography. Probably going to convert this camera to full spectrum once testing is done the IV...
Canon EOS 400D (EOS Digital Rebel XTi / EOS Kiss Digital X)
Canon EOS 60D
Sony Alpha a7R II
Although not a LiveView camera, still a great little DSLR!
Great camera. One of Canon's best of breed! Being retained solely for its fast autofocus for wildlife.
Wow! Love it! Fast autofocus with 3rd party lenses. Just wow! Body only.
Sony Alpha a7S
Canon EF 200mm f/2.8L II USM
Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM
Full spectrum modded by Life Pixel. Amazing high ISO performance! Main usage is low light, astro-imaging and nightscape photography, and IR photography. Body only!
Good stars and no coma to the edges of a full frame image! Works well on the Sony A7R II.
A heavy lens but works very well on the Canon 60D and Sony A7R II. Kit lens on the Canon 60D.
Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM
Kenko Teleplus MC4 AF 1.4 DGX
Kenko Teleplus MC4 AF 2.0 DGX
Used lens. Looks pretty beat up, i.e.: paint chips, wear marks, etc. BUT glass is superb! Works well on the Sony A7R II and yields better image quality than the Sony FE 70-200.
Rokinon 14mm F2.8 IF ED MC
Samyang 135mm F2.0 ED UMC
Samyang 24mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC
Good stars and no coma to the edges of a full frame image!
Good stars and no coma to the edges of a full frame image!
Samyang 35mm F1.4 AS UMC
Samyang 50mm F1.4 AS UMC
Samyang 85mm F1.4 Aspherical IF
Probably my favorite of the Rokinon/Samyang/Bower lenses. Super image quality!
Good stars and no coma to the edges of a full frame image! Appears to be de-centered to some degree!? This was subsequently resolved by inserting a spacer under the mount flange.
Sigma 150-500mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM
Sigma 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM
Sony FE 24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS
Used by itself and with 1.4x teleconverter for wildlife imaging and birding. Great lens in combo w/ Canon 60D and Sony A7R II, i.e.: fast autofocus and great image quality.
Not the world's best zoom but works well with the Rebel XTi and the Sony A7S.
Going to be my travel lens. It is a heavy beast but probably better than juggling three lenses? Found it to yield better image quality than the FE 70-200 (which is double the price)!
Sony FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 OSS
Tamron AF 28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di VC LD Aspherical (IF) Macro
Tamron SP AF 10-24mm F/3.5-4.5 Di II LD Aspherical (IF)
Kit lens for Sony A7 camera; acquired separately. Works very nicely with Sony A7S & A7 II. Probably a little lower quality on A7R & A7R II.
Nice handheld zoom range. Zoom position will not stay put; too loose! Although purchased for APS-C sensor usage it works reasonably well with a full frame camera.
Terrible lens for night usage. LED in the focuser causes all sorts of internal flare and patterns! Also, the lens does illuminate a full frame sensor but should be shot in Crop Mode to reduce star stretch and coma...
Other gear:

  • Celestron CGEM DX mount and StarSense Module Replaced Sky-Watcher EQ6Pro & Az-EQ6 mounts. Pier mounted in observatory. Primary imaging mount. Failed after 12 hours of operation; currently in to Celestron for repair! POOR! Replacement mount seems to have been far better built and quality controlled!?
  • Celestron Nexstar Evolution (6) mount and StarSense Module A truly sweet Alt-Az mount! Lightweight and solid. WiFi inherent. Built-in rechargeable battery. I'm testing the mount for short exposure astro-imaging. Looks like it is a keeper!
  • Commlite Canon EF to Sony FE adapter & 37mm filter holder Distributed by Hutech for astro-imaging and IR usage. Automatic functionality. Does NOT "like" Sigma, Tamron and older Canon lenses WRT autofocus!

  • MeFoto Travel Tripod Compact, sturdy, light and great quality travel tripod. Monopod convertible

  • No-name manual EOS->E-mount adaper w/ aperture adjustment Handy for when using automatic EOS lenses that don't have an aperture ring and don't work with an automatic adapter, or for those old lenses where the aperture has cratered!

bwana4swahili's previous gear

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ70
Canon EOS 40D
Good daytime camera. Terrible banding for astro-imaging. Owned for about six months.
Canon EOS 50D
Sony Alpha a7R
Canon EOS 7D Mark II
Great camera for daytime photography! BUT very noticeable banding for astro-imaging; probably not representative of all 50D's?
Full spectrum modded by Life Pixel. Love it for wide-field astrophotography and nightscape photography, and IR photography. Body only! Swapped for used Canon 7D II
Sold. Moving out of Canon equipment. Full spectrum modded camera.
Sony Alpha a7 II
Samyang 8mm F3.5 Aspherical IF MC Fisheye
Sony FE 70-200mm F4 G OSS
Good camera but simply didn't need it
Great lens with APS-C sensor; however, the non-removable lens hood gets in the way of full frame usage; however, still produces a nice croppable image on a full frame camera. Newer model has removable lens hood. Replaced with Opteka 6.5mm lens.
Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM gave better image quality even considering it was adapted to Sony A7+ bodies. Considered surplus and sold!
Other gear:
  • ATIK Color Infinity camera Great EAA camera!
  • Canon EF 18-135mm zoom Surplus. Good IR lens
  • Canon EOS 60D Full Spectrum Mod Hutech full spectrum modified

  • Sky-Watcher 10" Newtonian Good scope but too long for my observatory!
  • Sky-Watcher Az- EQ6 Alt-Az & EQ mount Not exactly the lightest mount BUT my grab-n-go mount nonetheless. Problems from day one. Fire in hand controller. Jerky motion. Probably built late Friday afternoon!?
