  • New build, and I didn't add a graphics card.  Using the integrated graphics on an i7 8700. SSD. I had a Radon graphics card on the old machine, but I had problem with Lightroom showing a blank ...
  • Replied in My thoughts
I just finished a new build. Replacing an i7 860 from about 2009, trying to get a new machine that lasts another decade. This is my thoughts about what to put in a new machine. Most of the ...
  • I think Olympus started a lot of the argument by comparing 4/3 lenses to FF lenses without considering noise of DOF. Thanks.  A neighbor of a relative owns the Old Crow site and gave us a tour. It ...
  • Kinda my point.  For about 15 years on about a weekly basis someone will pit a premium Olympus lens against a consumer FF lens and say they are equivalent. Try a different approach.  If I were told ...
  • ....which is why I hate the entire equivalence argument. It almost always leads comparison of a super high grade lens in the smaller format to a high grade, or standard grade lens (or a ...
  • This is an earlier thread with a bit more information about how to use the range finder. https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/60076164 I have never used the preMF the way it was intended (one more ...
  • I have both, if I could only have one it would be the Panasonic. The 300 is sharper, and better IS on the OMD. I'm not sure I would notice the difference in sharpness unless I shot in controlled ...
  • Replied in a quick test
I don't take that many long exposure UWA shots by hand, but thought I would check this out. Took a quick shot hand held 7mm shot @ .6 second of the grid. This is the full res shot. If you look at ...
  • The FL can be a function of the focus distance, even in a fixed lens. The following example is from a zoom, but without changing the focal length, just the focus distance.  It is the four thirds ...
  • A couple of thoughts. Is it more effective in the center of the frame than in the corners? IBIS can only move the sensor, so with a ultra wide angle it can't correct the whole frame. Quick example. ...
  • What's left of the Glines canyon dam is just off the road to the Whiskey Bend trailhead and worth a stop. They left the two abutments, added safety railings and information about the dam removal.  ...

Sunrise, Port Townsend North Cascades (Sahale Arm) When the wind shifts it clears up pretty quickly. Sahale Arm, the next day Sunset, Discovery Bay Crater Lake, Sunset Same spot, next morning And ...
  • It is possible to use flash in silent mode, but the default is disabled. To enable it: Shooting mode 2->Anti Shock/Silent->Silent Mode Settings->Flash Mode [Allow]
  • Given the way it works now, it is necessary to set the focus limits manually. I use to guess the distance to objects until I found a built in rangefinder. Set the AF to PreMF, press the info button ...
  • I use them, but don't like that they don't retain recent values. When using PASM, I reset and then change settings for current conditions. When switching Custom modes, it goes back to the reset state.
  • I do a lot of hiking, and have hiked most of the trails in my local area, so I have done many of them multiple times.  I have a pretty good collection of photos taken in almost the exact same ...
  • If you want to experiment with UWA, I would take a look at the 9mm bodycap. Inexpensive, small, light, sharp. I have the 9-18, the Panasonic 8mm fisheye, and the four thirds 7-14, but my goto lens ...
  • Replied in What's inside
The lens retraction on mine jammed.  It was out of warranty, and any repair is about the cost of a new one, so I thought I'd take a crack at it. Figured if it was something simple, and not too ...
  • I would like for the configurations to keep recent settings (long discussion why here ) , but your solution would meet my needs.  Would be easier for Olympus to implement and for users to understand.
  • Replied in Not uncommon
Just pointing out an alternative. If it doesn't work for you don't use it. Changing focus size isn't a high enough priority for me to assign a button to it.
