Reactive: Why is there so much coverage of space photography on DPR?

Perhaps they were digital photographs.

Phil A Martin: The trouble with this sort of photography, is it was original when the first person did it using a coke can or similar but now it's been commercialised, the novelty has worn off and it's become a cliché.

It's a camera. What you do with it is up to you.

photogopinion: If the Z9 doesn’t persuade DSLR holdouts to go mirrorless, I don’t know what will. But I do wonder if the surprisingly low price is something of a loss leader to tempt many more of their professional base to switch soon than competing with the other two brands. And perhaps persuade a few Canonites to switch instead of waiting for the (fabled?) R1 as the R3 really doesn’t look that competitive. It would allow Nikon to finally dump their DSLR (presumably more expensive to manufacture) line as Sony did.

"If the Z9 doesn’t persuade DSLR holdouts to go mirrorless, I don’t know what will."

A rather large cash windfall. Like many people I'm committed to F mount, having accumulated lenses and cameras over several decades. I simply can't justify the expense of switching all to Z mount.

It does look good though.

Pterodactyls are puny. What you need is a Quetzalcoatlus.

With my canvas and brushes, I don't even need a viewfinder.

Just search for "farmer hands potatoes" on google. And you will get LOTS of images very similar to this one. Just saying.

How many of them entered this competition?

JeffHSmith: I guess I am missing something here. While the winner was obviously quite creative on the potato design front; this is supposedly a photography contest not a a potato design contest.

I think that you're possibly missing everything that it's possible to miss.

3pgrey: If you don't need a laptop get a desktop. If you need a desktop don't buy one now unless you're desperate. Give it 6 to 8 months and you'll thank yourself

Why? There'll always be a better PC along in 6 to 8 months. Waiting won't change that. In addition, given the power of computers these days, what are you going to be able to do in "6 to 8 months" that you can't do now?

JT26: I think fair play to Leica, a brand that has proven it can evolve well and survive better than most. It isn’t just exclusively for wearily people, they have done good mid range stuff now.

This is just another example of them exploring other avenues. Hoping their software will be as good as their hardware as that really is the important bit, or at least equally important in photo photography

Given that it is the same lens and sensor, what are the physical differences that are "significant" and justify the near doubling in price.

The software is Android and the hardware is a rebadged Sharp phone.

Google sample images for the Sharp Aquos R6. It's the same phone and lens.

Astrotripper: With smarphone market flooded with boring "me too" bricks, this is a breath of fresh air.

I absolutely love this design.

Normally I would whine about it not being available in Europe, but unlike with Sharp smartphones, this would cost a fortune and thus be outside my reach anyway. So yeah, no complaints from me about it being Japan only.

In what way is a rebranded Sharp Aquos R6 with a red dot on it not a "me too" camera?

In reply to:

JackiePan: i would prefer if the camera only has taken black and white photos, the phone screen can only display black and white.

The screen can display colour. The article above even shows colour being displayed on the screen. The mostly B&W interface is merely a Leica design choice.

In reply to:

Disdain: Finally a proper approach to a phone camera. No gimmicks.

You do realise that this is a Leica branded version of the Sharp Aquos R6, don't you. The differences are largely limited to the external appearance and the inclusion of a "red dot"; i.e. it's a pure marketing exercise.

Dreamscape Photo: LOL capitalism

It doesn't take much imagination to see past that fact that what you describe as a POS could be a really good investment.
The person who bought it for $900 and sold it for $1,500 is not stupid. Likewise the person who has just bought it might make a similar profit in a couple of years.
