Impulses: " Con: May eventually be discontinued and replaced by cloud-based Lightroom CC "

That right there is what sent me looking for alternatives, I don't have an issue with the sub model per se, but I do have an issue with them eventually deprecating Classic in favor of the new LR CC which is sub based *and* cloud dependent.

PS and all the other Adobe tools are a definite value add to the sub tho, I actually think Adobe has done a good job of making it tough to beat their subscription package on value alone. You can argue that you don't need to buy every C1 upgrade or that there's alternatives to PS like Affinity, but LR's DAM and the tight integration and of Adobe's sub/cloud are hard to deny.

I'd like to see an evaluation of some of the standalone DAM tools out there, specially from an enthusiast PoV, many seem very niche or developed with teams and pro workflows in mind but there's gotta be some that would work for enthusiasts.

A cloud-based model would definitely not suit my needs.

wcan: Interesting. One think I find annoying about LR classic is startup time. Running a pretty good PC, but it's just slow (~10 sec.) to startup. How's C1 in this regard?

I use both on an iMac Pro 32Gb RAM. I cannot detect any appreciable difference between program opening times.

I hear that, but I think he was just referring to his dislike of vertical grips in general. (I bet you probably worked that out too so don't pay any attention to me !)

SirHarry: They are lying. The product isn't finished yet due to overheating issues on the R5. Not due to high demand.

C'mon panny, beat Canon with 8k. 😄

My take is that Thoughts R Us was being sarcastic

That would answer some of the questions people have about the Z series.

Hmm. Sounds fair, actually.

Next target: driving.

Agreed

I was just about to say, now that you mention it....
Driving is a very logical progression from this. Maybe we are distant relatives.

Just watched the video and the funny thing was nothing to do with the content, but the video itself..
Chris seems to have significant green fringing on his face near the end of the video.

Corkcampbell: Dropping a phone into a toilet is an "everyday scenario?" I can't imagine that generalization being anywhere near true. I don't remember any of my friends remarking that they just dropped a phone into a toilet.

I don't think dropping a phone into a toilet is that bad. Cleaning it up is no drama. Worse if there is solid waste at the time, but recoverable. I would use the phone after it fell into the toilet, no hesitation.

I know several people who have dropped the phone into the toilet and two who have fallen into swimming pools with phones
