this is so unbelievably ugly in comparison to its predecessor ...

I was looking at the comparisons on the studio shots. I realise this is way after the E-M10 came out. and the Nikon D3300 I wanted to compare with.
My comment is I reckon the D3300 samples are not in focus or something else was wrong. The D3400 comparison pics [same sensor, mostly the same everything else] look markedly sharper.
If anyone at DPReview is reading this ... maybe you can check it out.

TechDev1: One of these days soon a medium sized Android cell phone maker is going to come out with a Vlog marketed phone that will add a few bells and whistles, have some branded accessories and automatically posts your vlog to YouTube after you run it through their "AI" editing app. It will kill off these pathetic attempts of the traditional camera makers to build a decent vlogging camera. The rest of the cell phone manufactures will see the market and come out with their versions. Then all of the traditional camera manufacturers will cry out "those horrible cell phones are ruining us - we can't compete!" Idiots!

and it is ugly as well. Soviet severity appeal.

Peter in Canberra: yes, super shot, thank you. Amazing that these birds are still flying.

thanks for that. I've been to see the handful of warbirds at the Temora aviation museum - they have 2 Spitfires but no Hurricane -

A Hurricane was the first AirFix model I ever built (c1975) - those were the days!

Greg Silver: Looks like that 80s videogame Q-bert

don't know Q-bert but no matter how I look at that masthead image it seems like a cartoon character animated machine :-)

this might be a very useful lens for on the sidelines for sport on a DX body.

(unknown member): Problem with water-resistant cameras isn't that they don't work, they do, but once a lens front element or lens filter gets droplets of rain on it, the images go to Hell. An umbrella or some other such covering can be needed to preserve image quality.

I was going to say that too - ww1 machine gun timing !!

I'm a Nikon user and I liked the look of the Metz 44 AF-1 from an aesthetic perspective - looks about as compact as the SB-600. Haven't taken the plunge though. How have users found it?

anyone got their hands on one yet?
How is the build quality?
From images and youtube I wonder if the swivel mechanism and battery door are going to stand up to a lot of use?
The size and form still appeal to me though.
I have an SB400 which is a rugged little flash in terms of build quality.

this looks very nice:
SB400, 2AAs, 125g, 66 x 56.5 x 80 mm, tilt but no swivel - super compact
SB600, 4AAs, 300g, 68 x 123.5 x 90, tilt + swivel
Nissin i40 4AAs, 203g, 85 x 61 x 85, tilt + swivel

I too will be watching to see the price come down. Would think it would complement the D40/3xxx body size very well.
