I'm puzzled by many of the f-stop choices, so heed those when evaluating the pics. So many taken in the f20-f32 range, including most of the go-cart shots. Many wide open shots (which is helpful), but very few shot in the f5.6-f8 which is where I'm often likely to shoot to get a bit of dof.

Those pics also show that the XC 15-45 lens is a very nice lens. Bokeh is a little busy, but fine details across the image. I enjoy my 15-45.

I'm a long-time Pentax user, but I have also recently picked up a Fujifilm X-T100 mirrorless. The image quality w/ the Fuji is as good or better as my Pentax, so that's not the issue. For me, I like the Fuji because of its smaller size and lighter weight. I'm keeping my Pentax gear, however, because: OVF and shooting experience is more satisfying; weather resistance; in-body image stabilization; price/value. I'd have to spend $1000+ more on a mirrorless to get what I have with a Pentax KP.

markgv: Affordable lens kit?
- Rokinon12mm (outstanding UWA lens)
- XC 15-45mm (it is a really good lens)
- XC 50-230 (slow but very good quality)

Yes, to round out my kit, I'm eventually planning on the XF 27 f2.8 (faster than the 15-45 and so small!) or the XF 23 f2 (fast) or one of the other 3rd party 21-28mm primes.

For an APS-C range of 12-230mm, this kit is not only affordable but also about the smallest/lightest kit you could pull together. And it all works fantastic with my X-T100.

Ben Herrmann: Really looking forward to this 16-80 - finally, Fuji comes out with a 24-120 MM equivalent and I had assumed all along that it would follow suite (with the other brands) by releasing a constant F4 optic. Fuji tends to make quality lenses - even among their lower tier XC series. For example, their recently released XC 15-45 F3.5-5.6 OIS lens may be a kit lens in designation (PZ with all plastic construction), but optically it punches far above its weight - at times almost clinical without the negative connotations inherent with that designation.

Now the only thing with the 16-80 will be the price - but I guess you get what you pay for here. This would be the one lens I imagine that cover most scenarios and wind up staying on your camera.

My favorite general purpose travel lens with my Pentax gear is the Pentax 16-85mm f3.5-5.6. With the K-3, it's a weather resistant set up. I've kept the Pentax for its WR, but my primary camera is now the Fuji X-T100 with the 15-45. This new 16-80 looks great to me. I would rather have a consistent f4 than the f3.5-5.6 that the Pentax has. I just have to hope that the Fuji 16-80 is closer to $600 like the Pentax... And then I have to hope to get a WR Fuji body some time down the line...

Mortal Lion: https://www.amazon.com/Pentax-DA-40mm-2-8-Lens/dp/B0078KOEMA/?tag=pentaxforums-20& With an aperture and AF (if you use a Pentax camera). Also works on full frame 52 grams

Exactly what I was thinking... Beautiful little lens on a Pentax K-mount body, and even with an adaptor it's a small little thing on my Fujifilm X-T100.

To really compare these cameras for someone just moving to MILC, it would really help to demonstate how the camera functions with the standard kit lens. Then you would be comparing the Fuji X-T100 with 15-45 lens at $700; the Canon M50 with 15-45 lens at $700; and the Sony a6000 with 16-50 lens at $600. (Or Sony a6300 with 16-50 lens at $900 - all Amazon prices; relative price differences with lens are similar to price differences for body only).
As someone who is looking to get a smaller/lighter camera to back up my Pentax DSLR, price/performance with the kit lens is a strong factor. None of the kit lenses has a consistently great review, but the Fuji 15-45 appears (from what I can tell) to be a good step ahead of the others. For someone like me who won't have money to buy better lenses for a good while after buying the body, I'm likely to go with the Fujifilm even despite its other shortcomings.

If I were to buy this camera, prices now are:
$600 for body
$700 for body w/ 15-45
$800 for body and 50-230
$900 for body and 15-45 and 50-230
Is one of those a better deal than another?

markgv: It seems to me it's a more attractive value with the kit 15-45 lens for only $100 more than body only, but the review only says, "Kit lens isn't great." I'd be interested to know about the kit lens, especially compared to the 16-50 or 18-55. EIther of those lenses (which are possible kit lenses with the X-T20) would make the X-T100 camera system much more expensive and even less of a value.

Thanks for the links! That gives me confidence that this might work well for me.

5/10, but some I couldn't tell if it was just a lousy photo or manipulated.

In one instance, I was the pastor and not the photographer. Fargo, North Dakota. Early summer wedding. Beautiful setting in the gazebo in the city park near the river. Everything was perfect, except... the mosquitoes were so thick. Just clouds of mosquitoes descending upon us all. Looked like we all had St. Vitus Dance... Fastest marriage ceremony I ever performed. The photographer had to shoot quickly.

I'm not so sure about the "awesomeness" rating, but the tagging is quite good. It even tried to identify specific locations. (Did identify Washington Monument, but only could determine that Lincoln Monument and Tower of Pisa were "monuments.") It did recognize specific animals (cat, sheep) and insects. So, great for tagging, and it shows how Google images finds all the images it does in a search.

Thanks for this review. It appears to me to be a very fair assessment of the strengths of this camera in particular and Pentax in general.

Well, I'm really impressed with the amount of detail you were able to recover in that really dark pic. (even at 2000px)

Appreciate the review! I'm one of those with a bunch of old lenses looking for a home on a Pentax full frame.

With the release of the new Pentax K-50, the Pentax K-30 for under $500 is an incredible amount of quality camera for the price.
