On challenge Best Astrophotography Landscape #4 (2 comments in total)

Can't post any pictures since it has been bad weather after the announcement data of this challenge....maybe you need to make the rules for submission a bit less strict.

B E: Fail. This is not going to be practical for serious photo editing work. When you spend 8+ hours a day working with a pen, you absolutely need a flat surface to rest your arm on, ie a regular tablet. You also want the screen to be upright, not only for proper ergonomics, but also for reducing reflections and glare (you need it to be dark behind you, ie no light sources that can reflect off the screen), and the screen preferably has to be matt. Hovering your arm over this glossy screen, tilted upwards to reflect the ceiling lights, covered in fingerprints... it is just wrong in every way.

You can use it with a normal keyboard and mouse as well...then it will just act as a nice stylish desktop....You don't need to use the touchscreen if you don't want to.

Impressive. Even ISO153000 looks better than my ISO3200 on a D700 :-)

australopithecus: Frames 1, 2, 3, 6, 8, 9, 10, & 11 are what I'd call "overcooked". A common practise thesedays. PP ruins most images.

Sad

That's the wat you think about it. It's your good right. I just like that "overcooked" look.

Niklas Ramstedt: I like your work. The PP looks a lot like something I would try to achieve.

It is mainly achieved by applying gradient filters, and push and pull shadows. Either manually or in post process using LR4.4...Hope this helps you

Le Kilt: Too many unatural colours, go easy on the PP.
Thanks for sharing, though.

Do some reading as well. As mentioned in the text, I do like saturated colors. They don't need to represent the truth, just adjust them to my taste....of course you are allowed to dislike it. That's why there are so many phoographers, each with a different style.

MGJA: Very fine. I particularly like how you get so much out of equipment many dpreview:er forum dwellers would dismiss as antiquated.

A reminder that for the vast majority of us, skill, time and practice is what's lacking, not gear.

Thank you MGA

In reply to:

Deardorff: Why the B&W images in the midst of your saturated and clean color? Same with the picture of camera gear.
Show your strong images, either B&W or color and let them do the talking.

It was not me who made this selection. The gear-image was made with my cellphone

Jorginho: Man......Rutger. We have plenty of supercells in nl and plenty tornadoes. But not as dpectacular as in the Midwest. Try to practice in Nl first I say. Try to get in touch with dutch stormchasers, there are plenty of them . I am one for instance. Nice pics btw

Already captured one of the most beautifull and powerfull watersprouts I ever saw in the Netherlands, naar Texel. That's What inspired me to look into severe weather photography even more. Food to know there are lots of chasers in the Netherlands as well

Very proud to see two of my pictures (#1 and #2) in this Readers Showcase. The Crown on my work. Thanks you DPReview staff.

And that with Nikon D700....the oldy. Hopefully this shows that in the race for a better picture you don't really need that MP beast to take good photo's.
