  • I fully agree. I was surprised by how well the K-1 focusses in very low light conditions.
  • I agree with most of what you say. But, following my experience using an A7II for hiking, I have found the evf to be almost useless in bright snow covered landscapes when your eye is virtually ...
  • Good to train for altitude. You are rarely below 3000m in the interesting parts of Peru. One important point: guard your gear at all times. Thieves are very skilled and rampant...
  • Replied in K1
My first Pentax was the ES I got in 1973. Since then, I have been essentially using Pentax equipment (see my gear list), and have encountered only one problem: My LX bought in 1980 had problems ...
  • Beautiful photos - and beautiful cat !
  • Created discussion thread K-1 landscape photography
Whatever you "action" photographers have said about the performance of the K-1 - I am immensely satisfied by my "classical" practice of landscape photography by that camera. The fine resolution of ...
  • I don't know about the recent lenses, but I have had good results doing astrophotography - which is quite demanding regarding sharpness and coma in the edges - with the older manual focus A* ...
  • Replied in Zeiss/Pentax
Absolutely ! Zeiss was a great name - long, long ago. Part of them went to Western Germany after WW2 The others remained East and  worked in Jena. The latter made very good optics - but poor mechanics.
  • I have tested it with: A* 200mm F:2.8 A* 135mm F:1.8 A*85mm F:1.4 Excellent image quality. Better than what was obtainable on Kodachrome.
  • Beautiful - subtle colour tones of the distant background and illumination of the foreground. Beautiful image composition.
  • Nice !! What does the apparent displacement correspond to ? A rough estimate: Proxima Centauri is our nearest neighbour star and is 4.24 light years (LY) distant from us. It's apparent motion in ...
  • Beautiful image! I still have to try Astrotracer - no dark sky where I live.... I have corrected the colours of your image to what better corresponds to their true values - looks nicer:
  • Yes - a 28-300 WR would be fine. In fact - I am presently using to good effect a Tamron 28-300 Aspherical  LD (IF) 3.5-6.3 Macro that I bought "last century" (not to say millenium...) when digital ...
  • Created discussion thread A word to Ricoh/Pentax
I have been using Pentax equipment for more than 40 years. And I have Kept some of the most outstanding Pentax optics (see my equipment list...) waiting for a compatible digital camera to be ...
  • After that - shooting airplanes is child's play...
  • Replied in Noel...
I have had the K-1 for a week. I have used it for hiking with an "ancient" Tamron AF Aspherical LD (IF) 28-300mm zoom bought last century ! Surprisingly good image quality and I have - at last - ...
  • I have both the Pentax 18-135 and the Sigma 18-250 Macro which I mostly use for hiking. I most often use the Sigma 18-250 because of its greater reach - useful for distant objects and animals, or ...
  • I totally agree with you regarding use of MF once best focus is attained and fixing exposure. Also overlapping about 30%. That is the way I usually do panoramas. I may just add that you get more ...
  • As far as I understand, you will have to use software. I use Photomerge in Photoshop PS6 with good results. There are also a number of freeware programs available - but I can't give you much advice. ...
  • Excellent illustration of processing capability between RAW and JPG. JPG is only 8 bits per colour (2^8 = 256 saturation levels) whereas RAW is generally about 14 bits, i.e. 2^14 = 16384 levels. Ev ...
