In reply to:

SW Anderson: Note to Dpreview editor. The first use of "Affect" in the press release is a typo or wrong word choice. Farther on, it's correctly written as "Effect."

Secondly, the "Discuss in forums" link goes to Dpreview's Pentax DSLRs forum, not the Pentax Compact Camera forum where Q's are discussed.

Maybe these errors are just Monday things. ;)

farther on = furthermore :-)

Optical: Never seen such a crap! There are plenty good examples of cheap drones on youtube with impressive videos and stills.

MarshallG: The camera's appearance is much too subdued. It needs more garish bright colors, and more text advertising its features, and maybe add in some bright yellow, green and purple racing stripes to complement the red and chrome.

i want it in Yellow.. so that just in case it gets dropped in the ocean , it can be seen right away :-)

Btw: worst-placed built in flash ever. :D

Yes.. Nobody seems to be commenting on the flash... Fingers will cover that...

electrophoto: No control dials.... no easy way to adjust exposure... might be compact.
But why get something with interchangeable lenses if you can not take influence over basic parameters with some comfort.

It is clearly.. Not the camera for you electrophoto..

In reply to:

JDThomas: The most interesting thing about this announcement is the collapsible kit lens. Nikon is taking a page from the Leica book with this.

I'd like to see this feature on a higher end FX lens like a collapsible 16-35 f/4.

I am more interested in that 18-55 collapsible lens... I might ditch my nikon 18-70 if the new 18-55 is half the length of the 18-70..

johnparas11zenfoliodotcom: If this has the AF prong so it can AF my older Nikon AF-D lenses.. Which are smaller and slimmer than the AFS and G lenses.. This would be a good all around smaller travel DSLR...

read my post next time.. I said...IF this has the AF prong.. the operative word was IF.. genius...

Maverick_: As cameras go, this thing is sexy. Very nice design! I would have liked tilted screen, but I understand their desire to keep it as classic as possible.

Agree, i like the retro look as well.. But too crippled in features.. No Built in flash and no video..

mpgxsvcd: I can't wait till they hack it to turn the video back on. It is probably capable of 4K @ 60 FPS RAW video but Nikon turned it off for now.

Maybe the DF2 will do that plus built in flash with CLS!! :-)

km25: I will say it again, when I bouhgt my first Nikon I bought the Nikkormat, because I was un able to aford the F. This is like the Nikkormat cost more money, because it has less. Six monhts from now these cameras are going to be sold for $1500.00, with lens and extras.

May your words become reality! :-)

In reply to:

JackM: D610 + a few dials + retro look - video - 8mp = DF. Meh.

If the MSRP was $1500 body only.. We will be waiting a few months or a year before anyone can really get hold of one, it will be flying off the shelves... But $2750 for body only... Ugh, too much... It does not matter if it has the D4's sensor.

Don't get me wrong i like the retro look of this cam.. If my D800 has this retro look, i will be in camera heaven! But... The only selling point of this camera is the nice retro look.. If it had video and built in flash with CLS capability.. I would want it, this camera as much i really like how it looks.. This can't do anything my D800 can't do...if and when the Df2.. In the future will have video and built in flash and preserving the retro look.. I will be first in line ... Although maybe if this cam's MSRP is $1500 i will be the first in line to buy just because.. :-) (my credit card will be crying but... ). :-)

johnparas11zenfoliodotcom: When the DF mark 2 comes out, hopefully it will have video and built in flash... Then i will save $$ money to buy that.. :-).... If not the D800 or D610 are still good to play with.. Err... "Good enough" to use... This nikon DF is interesting only because of the retro styling, and more direct buttons..other than that.....

LOL!
