On article Throwback Thursday: the Canon EF 24-70mm F2.8L (111 comments in total)

Actually, the first EF lens that was the granddaddy of the Canon general purpose L zoom was the 28-80/f2.8-4L. Even though it was variable aperture it was a great film lens with good resolution, color fidelity, and image contrast. I still have mine. No IS of course. What I'd really like to see would be a higher end 24-105L with IS. Maybe an f3.5 instead of going all the way to 2.8 to keep the size down a little. The problem for me with stopping at 70 is that I prefer to have the 70-105 range included for "walk around" photography. The new f4 version designed as an L but primarily to be a kit lens for the 5D series isn't quite up to the image quality that I'd like it to have. I would pay more for a better lens with the 24-105 range.

I generally skip over the "I shot the world with one prime lens" articles. Yes, you can get a lot of good shots with a single focal length lens but you also miss a lot of opportunities for even more good shots, possibly better shots, because of the lack of focal length diversity. You can get way more good shots with a 24-105mm (on full-frame or equivalent on crop cameras) with close focus and IS capabilities and still have a one lens solution that doesn't drag you down with excess weight.

I really like the latest version of Phase One's Capture One software but I have to transfer to PS if I want to do any filters. If they would support PS filters with the ability to fade the resulting effect, I could leave PS pretty easily...

On a photo in the Nikon Coolpix A review samples sample gallery (2 comments in total)

This gallery is a disapointment to me. I expected to see some medium to high ISO shots because, when the light level drops and no VR, you'll have to resort to higher ISOs even with a 28mm lens...

On article Fujifilm releases X-S1 premium EXR 26X superzoom (383 comments in total)

I thought this camera might bea good camera when traveling light but then I ran across the samples that Fuji has posted. To me they aren't that great, especially for a $1000USD camera:
