Francis Sawyer: Holy crap, an INTERVALOMETER! Finally some common sense.

Of course, there's always something: Why a 999-picture limit?

"...battery won't last that long anyway..."
I don't think so.
I've made some T-l with my K5, and, i can make a 999 images sequence with less than half power of a battery.
You just have to disable the LCD screen and the AF.

Graystar: Hmmm...30MP crop sensor for $2300 or 36MP full-frame for (what should end up selling at) $2700...I think I'll go with a D800.

Sorry Sigma...still too little...and way, way too late.

THIS IS NOT a 30mpx crop sensor ! Stop dreaming.

This is a nice move from Sigma. The compact DP1M is pretty interesting for me.

Charrick: I was wondering why my gag reflex was triggered so suddenly. It's like if I wanted to give a 5-year old the worst birthday present ever. He'd be like "Why is this uglier than my other toys?" Then, reading down, I learned that someone exhibiting at the Museum of Modern Art designed this, and it all made sense.

This looks like a toy. It's as ugly as hell. It's as large as a DSLR, but without some of the main benefits (phase detection autofocus, viewfinder).

The Pentax Q seemed to be the lowest they could go, trying to trick an ignorant populace into buying a tiny "DSLR" which in fact was just a compact camera, with a small sensor, and an assortment of lenses that you don't need, because the quality will never be good enough to actually require them. They are just a blatant money-making tool.

Now this.

Ladies and gentlemen, Pentax is out of ideas. Ricoh made a big mistake, buying a near bankrupt brand. (Pentax got off lucky.)

PENTAX RICOH WILL GO BANKRUPT THIS DECADE.

Pentax Ricoh will go bankrupt in the next decade ?

I think than Sony or Panasonic camera divisions are a lot more in danger actually :
Sony results for 2011 : - 2 billions dollars they make no profits since 4 years ! http://www.businessweek.com/news/2012-02-03/sony-s-hirai-vows-to-deliver-stringer-vision-with-cost-cuts.html
The CEO of Sony have announced yesterday than Sony will stop some activities...

Panasonic : - 10.2 billion dollars ! http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/02/03/panasonic-idUSL4E8D327120120203

Pentax is small, but makes profits since 2010.

So please, stop with that non-sens speech.

steelhead3: Nothing against the French, but I have a hard time thinking of a product on the cutting edge that they have brought successfully to market. Their government will make some standards that render it only good for the internal market.

Soitek, ST micro electronics, Alsthom, Dassault, Catia, a big part of Airbus, Falcon private jets, CapGemini, Bugatti, Bull...
In France, the average cost of a Internet connection is 30€, with 28mpbs download, free overseas phonecalls & HDTV via I.P. How much did you pay for Internet in the U.S and for waht kind of services did you have ?

you just don't know what you are talking about...:)

max metz: Anyone that's had the joy to use the lens on this camera could not help be overwhelmed by its superb quality given the range. They can stamp Leica all over this camera, just because of the lens design and quality lens manufacture - it's just outstanding.

IT's just a panny lens. Niothing speclail with it.

fransams: What is the function of the 4-3-2-1-0 dial on the front? Is it a manual self-timer?

It's funny to read the reactions above now than image samples are out and looks just pretty good, even at hi iso (1600).
For a P&S camera, of course. ;)
But i could consider that camera.
