The Canon 70-200 will be harder to handle than an internal zooming lens, and have the potential to suck in dust and water when the air inside is displaced and restored.

What's your definition of "small"? Compared to the rest of the FF mirorrless industry, Sony's lenses are equal or smaller. Sometimes vastly smaller.

And the A7 is known to have bad adapted AF. The A7 II is a big step up, and the A7 III another big step up on top of that, both after their own FW 2.0s.
