To my eyes the bokeh from Nikon Z 24-70/2.8 S looks more sweet.
ron purdy: When I have tried this camera, AF has been miserably slow and inaccurate every time.
There were times when I would hold my finger down on the shutter button for a full second or two before the focus even started working at all.
There is NO WAY I would want to use this camera to shoot indoors for that reason alone.
(IQ looks very good though.)
Altough I have never tried D600 is used D7000 for many times (own a D700 + D5100) and I do laugh on comments like the AF is unusable...
What would these people say for example for a 5D mk2 AF?
People need to realize that if an AF system works based on contrast and there is low light and low contrast and the lens is not the best wide open (where the AF point is active) especially towards the edges... there is a limit for every camera/configuration/situation...
These tools are precision tools, and the user needs some special knowledge -> use the center AF point in low light and pick a high contrast point on the same filed and recompose! :)
heah, unfortunatelly AF fine tune/micro adjustment is missing... it is pity, of course maybe not a dealbreaker, i have it on my D700 but barely use it, lenses just work fine, but I can imagine in 24mpx there is bigger need for AF fine tune... (especially if Nikon quality check is down a bit nowdays... if!)
anyway, really nice product, light FF camera with durable shutter, love the idea of it, and the sample pics are amazing!!!
Hey Amadou,
why is there a tremendous difference in "ergonomics" when I compare to Nikon D5100? 8 vs 13 points? Usefull touchscreen cannot be the reason for the whole can it?
wish all the best!
great lens, i think will worth the price for many,
btw picture nr P6270021 (6/15) is missfocused.
tkbslc: Wow, this makes the $800 Canon 28mm f2.8 IS look even more stupid.
sure it is cheaper to manfacture (f/2,8 + IS) but WHO'S GONNA BUY IT???
snackwells: Wow...the JPG loss of fine detail is frighteningly stark compared to the RAW conversions (see the forest/tree scenes). This is a strictly RAW only camera...at least coupled with the 24-105.
I know only one photographer who shoots jpg... and He uses an Olympus system, they have great jpg engine and not too much reserve in RAW file... unlike for example Canon, these jpg images are so badly sharpened and noise-filtered like they are taken with a powershoot camera...
D3s was out of this world when it was released, in my view D4 is a good replacement with a bit better IQ and lots of handy refinements... not to talk about video...
lensberg: The Nikon D4 is essentially an overhyped camera... but i suppose that was to be expected considering the fact that it was propped up prematurely to assume the high ISO crown from the D3S.
Considering the fact that there is a 2½ year time span between the D3S & D4 ... Nikon seem to have made virtually no advances regarding ISO performance...
Just look at that furry patch that resembles tiger skin at ISO 6400 on the D4 and you'll notice severe ammounts of noise reduction at work... blurring out the fine textures & fibres completely... by contrast the D3 & Canon 1D Mark IV manage to preserve the textures whilst delivering a natural looking image...
The intricate pattern on the green & purple fabric is totally smeared out by the D4 though funnily the white cross fibres remain intact ... Now compare it to the D3s sample which is excellent... even the 1D IV manages to retain more detail...
agree with marika6!
and for the ones who are dissapointed: it is not the D4's fault that is (ovarall) only a bit better than D3s, it is the D3s that was so goooood... :)
Dragonfire: D3s is so goooood... would love to see the 5Dm3 comparison, all the JPGs seen from 5Dm3 looked like a properly cooked and sharpened 4mpx images blown up to 22mpx... poor JPG processing as usually, looks like plastic with powersot like shaprening...
imho D800 will be the best player under 4.000$, if I take a look at the D800 factory samples... WOW! and high iso samples are promising too...
5Dm3 will be a good allrounder, nice AF finaly!
count the 3 years of develpment in and the power downsampling images... even the 1,5 yo D7000 (with smaller pixel size than D800) is only 1-1,5 stop behind D700 only above 800 iso.
i am shooting with D700, based on early samples from D800 i would trade my camera in a second ;)

will see (from what I see is at least as good as D700 or better, that cannot be "shitty"), btw high iso samples from 5Dm3 are looking very very good (too much NR maybe), probably better on screen than D800. waiting for proper comparison.

Good post Barney, cannot wait to get the book in my hands here in Hungary. The story of Vivian is touching too, but the images are one of the most powerfull ones I have ever seen... simply a musthave
cannot belive this, a CoolPix with usable IQ...
IMHO very good results...
Love the little guy on D700, much nicer bokeh rendering than 1,8D, AF performance is more than OK, a joy to use...
from the IR (reduced size) samples: it may have "usable" IQ at higher sensitivies. Altough i hope it ill not kill Pentax... Pity they did not joined m4/3 format. Hope Nikon's small sensor will not be that small...
I think I would choose Oly XZ-1 over this Pentax for a small camera with usable IQ.
