  • Replied in Wide angle?
Thanks for the link! I have a couple of pages bookmarked from that fellow.  I will be looking at more of his reports.  A friend has suggested that I look at his filters.
  • My 1D is the original 1D, which doesn't directly compare to the more modern cameras at all - my D30 preceeded the 1D, again not at all in the same class as these newer bodies or your SL1
  • I don't own an SL1, and I'm not shopping for a 24mm or 28mm prime. Did you mean to reply to a different discussion?
  • Created discussion thread EOS 6D Sigma 14mm 3.5
I'm getting this lens to work with the 6D Will I be wasting my time trying to get this f3.5 lens to get results on the night sky?
  • Replied in Wide angle?
Thanks! Today I recalled that i have the older Sigma AF 14mm 1:3.5 wide angle lens for EF mount.  It works on the D30 and the 1D, but has been reported to not work on later bodies. I confirmed this ...
  • I hadn't really thought of doing this upgrade as I'd held my eyes blind to the progress of these cameras. My original 1D works great although I'd understood that there were advancements in low ...

What's out there in the 14mm range for a low dollar manual focus lens? Anything suitable for astrophotography on Canon 6d?
  • I made it home from Saturday morning errands with a super clean 6D, lens, bunch of batteries, a carbon tripod and other tidbits. Schnazzy camera.
  • Created discussion thread Assembly guide, FDn 85mm f1.2
Anyone here know of a source for service data for the FDn 85mm 1.2? Started a thread on the adapted lens forum, with no luck.  I've called Canon, also with no luck.  I'd like to get an exploded ...
  • I just got off the phone with Canon USA They have nothing, nothing at all.
  • No I haven't. Didn't even cross my mind.  Last time I'd dealt with Canon, the Southern California aftertaste was overwhelming. I'll try them tomorrow.  Thanks for the gentle reminder of the obvious ...
  • Yes Saw that one.  I'll likely end up clearing a table and laying everything out, and re assemble it on general mechanical principle.  I've had many other lenses apart in the past, this one is ...
  • Great pile of links there. I'm not seeing what I'm looking for, which is a detailed disassembly and reassembly guide for the rear end of the lens, to include details on the bearing assembly.
  • I might have gone a step further, as there's a bagged set of parts in my kit here with the small ball bearings and a spring. A full disassembly and reassembly guide would be nice. I've looked at ...
  • Created discussion thread FDn 85 1.2 Wizard wanted
I'm reviving old projects. Some-teen years ago I'd opened a Canon 85/1.2 FDn lens, gotten to the "ball bearings" part, carefully bagged the parts and stopped.  Wife and I embarked on the events ...
  • Here's another thing I'm seeing - availability of split image focusing screens. I can get a Canon split image focusing screen for the 1Diii and it's predecessors. Can I get one for the 6, or even ...
  • Ah. 6D bargain condition at KEH, ~$700
  • Clean images at 6400 I'll have to look at that.
  • Something for me to note here - my exploration into the bargain basement of Canon digital bodies has as much to do with my own interest as anything. The kid's getting started with the svelte D30, ...
  • The new equipment is amazing, no doubt. This pursuit is around getting the kid rolling wih the D30 and going forward from there. Tonight I got a new CR2025 and a new battery pack charged up, ...
