On article Ricoh video details the next flagship Pentax APS-C DSLR (656 comments in total)
In reply to:

Class A: A new APS-C flagship camera with an innovative viewfinder + battery grip and three new lenses in development:

1. Excellent 85/1.4 lens with minimal bokeh CA.
2. Metal Limited lens, so small it will be the envy of many MILC users.
3. High-quality APS-C zoom.
All weather-sealed.

So much for Pentax not having a future.

Come on now, the DFA 85 1.4 was first announced in February of 2017 and it is still not out.

I was excited about this lens when they announced it in February of 2017, I've since moved on.

Pentax users always complain about the weight and cost of lenses and bodies, and I'm sure they will do that with this lens. Most will be happy just buying a used FA 85 1.4 for a couple hundred bucks than spend the money on this. I'm sure it will be a fine lens but they don't have the market to sell many so it will be expensive so they can recoup development cost and that will make the market even smaller for them.

So a small percentage of users pay and a majority of users are freeloaders and it is unsustainable, where have I heard of something like that before.

I'm amazed that you can get a 107 certificate without having to take a flying test. To get a drivers license you have to past a written test and a behind the wheel test. For manned aircraft the same, written and actual flying but for drones it's just written test.

Good advertising for Sony CSL, whatever that is.

Mr Bolton it's not, but if you ever listen to the mainstream media in the US (not sure where you're from) they always call people racist whenever you bring up legal status of people in the US.

If the mainstream media sees this they will call Jet Blue racist and say they are discriminating.

dpthoughts: "large, pretty heavy and quite costly lens".
Nowadays, Ricoh seems to give birth to unwieldy and overpriced monsters only. Not only for FF, but now also for APSC. Nobody wants that cr*p. What about going a different route, what about "small, pretty lightweight and quite good value for money"?

Once upon a time, Pentax filled a niche of light and compact travel-friendly equipment, as their brand identification. This niche is completely lost to mirrorless APSC and m4/3 now. But even Nikon is remarkable travel friendly with their cute 10-20mm. That fits the bill "small, lightweight and exceptional good value for small money".

dpthoughts you are correct when you say they don't want to spend money.

Not everyone is in the same physical or economical situation as you. Many people will have no problem working with a lens this size and in this price range. You may not be able to handle or afford it but many people can.

You're right. They are both black, round and have AF MF switches on the side.

Oiche: To the Pentax bashers, at least we can take a shower with our cameras :)

I did have a decent amount of Pentax gear, wish I would've kept the K1 and DA*300 that was a great pair. The DA560 was not a very good lens in my opinion, I wouldn't recommend it.

I bought my cameras to take pictures with, not shower with.

A apsc lens for £1399 or as of 1/30 $1835 US, I don’t see many Pentax buyers stepping up to buy that. From years of shooting Pentax one thing I’ve noticed from forums is Pentax users don’t like to spend big money on equipment.

Ergo607: What I will remember for 2018 is how embarrassing it was for dpreview that they had to redo the rushed out review of the Pentax K1 MkII. Putting it on 1 as worst camera of the year just shows that you never used it (or were biased - I wouldn't know what's worse.)

I did the upgrade and couldn't be more happier. Next year be sure to add a category most underestimated camera; I am sure Pentax would come out on top...

Have you used any of the other cameras that were released this year? Could it be that you’re biased towards Pentax?

Cheers.

But they won’t be testing this on a Pentax body. Maybe they will like how it performs on a D850, 5dsr or 5d4.

zakaria: Thanks for posting the gallery and your first impression..though when talking about the price I would like to compare the pentax lens with the competitors from canon nikon sony not the third party.

What market is the Canon 50 1.2 for?

NickyB66: Maybe Nikon gave nasa the cameras, great pr for Nikon IMOH.
