On article Canon EOS R5 vs. R6: What's the difference? (247 comments in total)

Sarman 2525: Here is what is exciting about both cameras.
The Animal eye AF for birds is ridiculously good. Even when a bird only is a tiny part of the frame the AF nails focus.

And with only a little over 1/2 stop loss of light, you can get an 800mm prime lens that that is much smaller than many 600mm zooms on the market - an about 1/2 the weight. The 600mm prime is even smaller. probably 1/3rd the volume, and well over half the weight!

These are going to be a dream for shooting wildlife and birds at 20 fps.

A99ii ?

ArizonaPete: Sounds bad, but this is the best case scenario.
They could have shut the unit down. Not many companies are willing to let someone else use their name.
I doubt Nikon or Sony would spin off their camera division to someone else.
And Sony already did something similar only they still own it. That new company has to stand on its own or die.

They didnt sell the name.

Golan Ziv: i got the z7 and the face detection does an excellent job. don't need any eye detection. its a gimmick and nothing more. all those years i even didn't have face detection and still managed to take some nice portraits

I remember when cameras didn't exist, back when we made images with paint and canvas and still managed to make some nice portraits.

IdM photography: Without a sensor produced by Sony, a Canon mirrorless camera won't be able to compete seriously with the Sony A7Riii and the Nikon Z7 with respect to AF in low light and dynamic range...

They don't need a technically better product the logo is enough to win.

em jo photo: So, is the Sony A7.3 selling well?

If you say, "obviously," I hear ya--it's nice and it should--but does anybody have any numbers?

I ask because the A7R.3 looked like a photographic hotcake, too; but it was topped by the Nikon D850, even though the D850 was horribly backordered and, frankly, a pain to buy.

So I can't help but wonder if the subset of photographers who are vocal on the internet are, perhaps, not a good representation of the camera-buying-public at large--even of the serious-camera-buying public.

Just on the face of it: if a Martian dropped into DPReview she might be forgiven for thinking Olympus is the center of the photographic equipment universe and Canon is a niche manufacturer. The micro 4/3 community here is large and vibrant--but micro 4/3 doesn't outsell Canon.

What if we aren't giving Canon and Nikon enough credit for knowing the markets they've built and lead for decades?

If A7.3 sales don't push against FX DLSRs, we can't blame Nikon for being hesitant.

Relax.

matthiasbasler: @dpreview. Please correct the specs: Display is listed as "Tilting ", when actually it is "Fully articulated". (This is irritating when comparing cameras in side-by-side view.)

Oh, and also note that Panasonic obviously decided this camera needs a third name, as it is sold as G81 (not G80) in Germany and other EU countries.

G80 in Sweden which is a EU country.

In reply to:

davids8560: The K-3 is a solid, straight-forward DSLR that should strike a positive chord with just about any DPR devotee. I think this was a good review.

However, I did read about a fellow in Ohio who bought a K-3 and then, several days later, was struck by a car at a quiet, residential intersection near his home. His leg was broken. While this doesn't establish a pattern, it is perhaps something to be on the lookout for.

And then there was that thing about the werewolf biting in the moors of Scotland. The guy wandered off the main road. The simple local folk at the little pub in the village had told him to stay on the main road. But he must have gotten disoriented. Needless to say, things didn't turn out so well for him. But this could be only hearsay

But certainly, anyone who has ever read a Ken Rockwell review should be able to take a decent .jpg image of a static subject ten feet away in normal daylight with this camera, even with the kit lens. Of course, YMMV. IIRC. IMHO.

Thanks!

The guy who wandered off the main road, he had a K-3 right?
