Wide angle portraits can open up more possibilities IMHO. I like wide angle portraits for this reason. Here is one shot at 28mm. Nikon D800 + AF-S 28-70 f/2.8

Thank you! It is indeed a "beast!" Brought it for a trip to Florida in late May. It was a chore lugging it around the theme parks, but I am glad I did. Captured some wonderful memories with it!

I disagree with the cannot be too creative bit. Yes - they are formulaic, but as a photographer, you should still be able to apply creativity based on the needs of the client / the look profile ...
