Light Pilgrim: what is the point to invest in DSLR R&D when all major companies have shifted to mirrorless?

Because PENTAX will be the Leica of the DSLR.

JoaoPedroAB: Hard to believe that Nikon, after imitating Sony, went to a major mistake: battery. Sony demonstrated that is possible to include larger batteries without affecting the camera size (A7ii-->A7iii and the same for A4r). I can't imagine that a pro would accept changing batteries so often in a sport field or even a wedding. Also, the cards: a place for a SD would be welcome.

no no. With a single memory slot and this battery even the semi-pros will avoid the purchase.... but what is a semi-pro?!?

skorpionet: Single slot, 330 shots, at least 4100 $ + taxes: no market for this camera.

but these are the numbers to make pictures..... not Mpixels, not hundreds af points, not the buffer size, not the FPS.... neither the absence of the mirror....

samhain: Noct 58mm/0.95 AND a 50mm/1.2?!!!

Oh. My. God. My jaw is on the floor.

Thank you Nikon! I take back every mean thing I’ve ever said about you. I bow to you almighty Nikon. I might even name my firstborn after you.

Great job Nikon!

This endorsement is the Editor's pick?! OMG

Why no more NIKKOR label after the 58mm?

Alex Sarbu: Hmm... nice to see Pentax being covered, but this is a bit too negative, don't you think? We'd want to know what it does well, too, not only that it's heavy, expensive(???) and has some CA.

Speaking of the price, the Sigma Art is $949 at B&H, which is far from $600 (half the D FA*'s price). We're comparing the street price of a *third-party* lens announced *more than 4 years ago*, with a newly launched OEM lens' price.
It's also about as large and as heavy and the Pentax.

The Pentax is also AW.

to DPR:
1- the title is wrong, it's D-FA* not FA*
2- the lens elements description is wrong, its "three anomalous dispersion and one aspherical" NOT "one anomalous dispersion and three aspherical"
3- really low res pictures, I think that you received full size pictures. If not please do a service to your community and download them from here: http://www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/english/products/lens/k/standard/hdpentax-dfa-50/

ogl: Good news - they did it at last....
I feel pure indifference to this lens. I hope it's good performer, but nothing interesting at all. Huge 50 mm with high price is marketing trend of all companies.
If they could design sharp and compact lens just a bit bigger than FA50/1.4 or absolutely new focal length lens, it would be more interesting. The system still has no cheap DFA50/1.7(1.8), 85 mm lenses and no any FF wide-angle primes shorter than 31 mm. The wide angle are covered with huge and expensive zoom Tamron design DFA15-30/2.8, very old FA31/1.8 and FA35/2. It's all. It's sad and funny.

@ogl yep sure... but you know who works on Tamron lens design team?

"Tamron design" could be more "Pentax design" than you think....

The samples are gorgeous, kudos to Pentax. This lens is over the performances of Otus or Art.

@badi obviously not. http://www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/english/products/lens/k/standard/hdpentax-dfa-50/
