Hubertus Bigend: Cheap plastic, designed to imitate the excellent, unbreakable old manual Nikkor lenses, and not even offering an aperture ring which would be mandatory for the dedicated dials of the Z fc camera to even make sense.

This new attempt might be slightly less stupid than Nikon's earlier one with the Df, which already could have been a really nice camera – but its concept and design failed in so many ways it's hard to even enumerate them. This new 'retro' approach still is more show than substance.

Fuji remains the only company that is doing 'retro' right – by not trying to make their cameras look like some old camera, by not imitating things, by just making the best use of those 'classic' design elements which make the same sense today as they use to back in the film days, from a usability point of view.

@Hubertus Bigend ... To be honest I was also disappointed when I saw the plastic mount ... being an FF prime. Even those Chinese manual focus low cost lenses have Metal mount. I wish it was so. But Nikon wanted to bring down cost. We have to wait and see how this lens will take abuse in relation to mounting and unmounting.

justmeMN: "so Z 50 customers can use DX and FX lenses" - Nikon

(sarcasm) Yes, people buy affordable APS-C cameras so they can use big, expensive, FF lenses.

@justmeMN ... I think he is very practical ... common aps-c users do not buy too many lenses .. so if Nikon can bring out a 28mm and another 40mm FF pancakes at reasonable price points, it will help both full and crop frame cameras.
I am waiting for these pancakes ...

Not good enough.

Worth about $2,000 but not more.

If thats true A9 should not be more than $,1000 ... :-)

@Blue Bomber .... SONY made 7R with the same sensor as D800 but we all know it was not even half the camera the Nikon is ...
And now SAMSUNG & TOWERJaZZ also coming to the Party, difficult days ahead for Sony ...
It was inevitable anyway ...
But with some luck people might be able to use some of the SONY lenses with the Z mount ...

@LFPCPH
Yes. Nikon D-850 is a completely Nikon designed Sensor ...
Thats why SONY can not even sell that sensor to other brands ... even can not use on their cameras ...
SONY should stick to SENSOR making and leave camera business to the big boys ...
