The difference in DPR photos is negligible to me, but unfortunately this camera front focuses quite badly and visibly in certain situations.

No, it didn't fix that issue and I'm afraid it may not be possible to fix it with firmware. It seems A7 IV has not enough focus points and when there is no focus point on the eyeball it will focus ...

Unfortunately the focus sometimes is on the nose and that is harder to justify.

Well, I think I have an explanation. I overlaid focus points over these two images and in the misfocused image there is no AF point on the eyeball.

I went through my "real life" photos but I didn't find a single one framed similarly. If the face is smaller in the frame or smaller aperture is used it may be hard to notice such a missed...

Just to close this thread, another A7 IV doesn't get warm. This was probably some setting preventing body from entering lower power state. Not my camera, didn't want to mess with the settings.
