If you need to query the price, perhaps Leica is not for you?
As always with Roger’s articles, I enjoyed both the content and prose.
I enjoyed this piece, as I do with Roger’s other writings. An asset to out enjoyment of expensive gear and the industry. Please keep going, Roger.
My dad let me borrow his Olympus OM2. Many happy memories from using that camera.
The X100 could be the perfect camera for family use, IF the autofocus is up to spur-of-the-moment shooting. I sold my X100 version 1 due to AF being slow and hard to aim with the optimal view finder (hit and miss).
So, noe I can put my mind to rest. Too bad, the X100 has a lot og good points. Small enough too come along, Big enough to out class a phone.
Also consider an Olympus m43 together with 12-100/4 lens.
Several older m43 camera models can be purchased used for little money, but with an arguably better sensor and AF. Stabilization is very good.
I shall wait for a new round of iPhones. The most important feature for me and my family is the option to share photos and video with family and friends. Without delay and faffing about.
The 2019-generation of iPhone is rumoured to continue with Lightning-port, which I do not care for. A longish wait for me then. For more considered photography I shall enjoy Nikon FX and Olympus m43.
I think I’ll wait for gen 3 of Nikon Z.
A dweeb-image is included 👍🏻
Arthur Stanley Jefferson: I knew I should have trademarked ‘Think Shift’ and ‘Mind Tank’... oh well, guess I’ll stick with ‘ Aweful Dezign’ as my brand identity.
Slogan “ Be betterer than than the rest”
Perhaps Thnk Tnk and Mnd Shft are up for grabs? Gotta hook them hipsters.
So, close to USD 600 for the all-in package, plus around 20-25 % VAT in Europe. Perhaps a touch too much for some?
girlperson1: I used to take dpreview's reviews seriously but now that Amazon owns this site I tend to take the reviews with a grain of salt.
The main concern of the site’s owners (If any) would surely be that readers buy something (anything) camera related, via Amazon. That readers feed their habit, so to speak.
In Camera: Pity about the poor keyboard, dongle-hell and silly prices. A Windows laptop will have to do until Apple wake up to the fact that I am a customer, not a donor.
@ HenryDJP: Dongle-Hell and silly prices remain.
Strong language over a stranger’s choice of compting device.

I’d like a MacBook, but cannot stand the Butterfly keyboard. Silly Apple, when customers stay away due to stubborn foolishness.
Faint praise, indeed.
Sooo, Fuji has perfected «just like granddad’s camera». Time to move on yet?
Dpreview should not parrot Nikon’s press release entirly. The term «select» cameras is designed to spin a negative into a positive. I.e. The Lucky, exclusive few, vs only some, newer models.
