You are most definately using Adobe RAW with sharpening-settings inappropriate for X-Trans. There are tutorials for years now, how to not produce these wormy effect - even when using Adobe.

you forget you need lenses... If you want to make use of the additional quality a bigger-sensor could offer you - you need the high-end fullframe lenses... and that won't be cheap.

This is the video-tailored hybrid-camera... there is an X-H2 incoming with higher-res sensor (8k)... and most probably an X-T5 with one of the sensors next year...

X-H2 should have it - though 6k's 18MP should be sufficient most of the times imho.
