Thanks for that and a loss of just over 1/2 stop does sound more encouraging. Yes, DXO seems to be getting more sloppy. A few years ago it was easy to find the methodology for the sensor tests but ...

For some time I've wondered about the transmission losses in these highly complex lenses with so many elements and so many glass to air surfaces. Recently I realised that DXOMark actually ...

If both are using tripod hi-res then a shade of vibration could take the edge off the resolution. Do we know if the lens used was the exact same one?

I don't think the OM5 comes with the fl-lm3 flash or the battery charger. It has less buffer too (compare the specs) and the buffer is not huge on either body.
-
Did you by any chance compare the effective light transmission of the Oly and Pana 20mm? The Oly should be 1/2 stop faster but it has 10 groups vs 5 and so twice the number of glass/air surfaces. ...

Lens data says it's OK https://asia.olympus-imaging.com/product/dslr/mlens/100-400_50-63is/feature.html Could it be that the converter data is out of date?

What's not to like? They don't tell you that there is probably less buffer than on the EM5-3! https://asia.olympus-imaging.com/product/dslr/em5mk3/spec.html https://asia.olympus-imaging.com/product ...

n..... sorry should say on SAF ..... (can't I edit my own post?)

I bought the Pana 20mm f/1.7 for my EM5-3 to complement the Oly12-45 f/4 zoom in low light. I don't use CAF much at all really but I did try it the other day. Holding the shutter button half down ...

I think that Lenstip's remark about the laws of Physics is just saying that the maximum aperture at 400mm is too small for brilliant results due to diffraction. They can correctly say that before ...

Thanks for that info. I'd wondered about the distance that Lensrentals used. LensTip have quite alot of information about their testing procedure on the site. They have several copies of their ...

I've searched but all I find is praise for the Oly. (except Lens Rentals of course!).

Hi FPG, The only references I have been able to find are in discussions referencing that test by Lens Rentals. I wonder if the example (and it was only one) used for the stop down test was a rogue ...

Yes, I read it all several times!! The point is that according to Lensrentals the edge resolution is lower when stopped down to f/2.8 than at f/1.8. I have yet to see another test that shows this ...

They reduced the 'virtual' buffer. At silent 30 fps the em5-3 manages 23 raw, the OM-5 only 18. A 28% difference. You need to look at the specs on the Asia Website to see it. As you'd expect at...

Lensrentals have reported some MTF tests for the Olympus 45mm f/1.8 lens that show a lower edge resolution at f/2.8 than they do at f/1.8. https://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2018/03/finally-some-more ...

I have recently bought an Olympus EM5-3 with 12-45 f4 Pro lens as a kit on special offer. I have a D7000 and D7200 and a variety of lightweight kit lenses, most recently AF-P 10-20, AF-P 18-55 and ...
