TheRealYeats: "...the K-3 III looks like the ultimate APS-C DSLR on the market right now."
There's not exactly a lot of competition.
they still can't match how-old-it-is-already D500 in C-AF department... give it 5 more years they will get it done though... last dSLR standing
Mr Bolton: If anyone would know which way the wind is blowing, it would be this guy. What an amazing career!
It's interesting how he notes that you'd need a 300 inch screen to really see all of 8K. And for that matter, that the 32" 4K monitor I have in front of me is really kind of overkill in terms of resolution.
I worked in a building that used to house a TV studio circa 1961. One day I was outside and found this huge air compressor, like the tank is as big as a small car, and I couldn't for the life of me understand why a TV studio would have compressed air service big enough for a dozen bay auto garage. Then I remembered-in 1961 video tape machines required compressed air which they used to maintain the tape in suspension over the heads.
Imagine a career which spans from that, to today..

so you do not see any difference between 32" 4K and 32" HD ? seriously ?
so long !!!
marc petzold: 99% the same Lens as the Viltrox before, but much more expensive. And Viltrox does have like Fujifilm a great Firmware Update Support, for all 3 of their APS-C Lenses, the 23, 33 & 56mm F1.4 Variants.
A fine Sunday, good Light.
it more expensive, but NOT "MUCH MORE" ("MUCH MORE" will be Fuji 23 1.4)... plus w/ Tokina you get optical correction information written into RAF files, with Viltrox you are not
Phil Flash: Fuji is really building a nice SYSTEM of lenses. The problem with 70-200 telephoto lenses in FF systems is they tend to be large and not have much reach, not to mention that they are expensive. If you're willing to compromise with a 5.6 maximum aperture, you get incredible reach (450mm equiv.), image stabilization, a compact and lightweight package, all at a reasonable price. This is really impressive if you've always wanted to do telephoto shooting but have been held back by size, weight, and cost. This lens gives one capabilities out of reach with most FF systems, with the added quality of APSC over a smaller format like M43. Fuji, you are really making me consider your system.
dude you know that FF systems have lenses other than 70-200 ? including 70-300 too ? mount 70-300 on A7R4 and you have from 70mm @ 61mp to 450mm @ 26mp reach
as usual comparing @ default (as installed) settings is not clever, no matter what are the merits... as noted, for example, C1 /for Fuji/ lets you use either embedded /in RAF files/ optics correction _or_ in-house developed profiles... yes, by default in house profiles are used - but then at least the properly done comparison shall mention that you can just like Adobe switch to Fuji's correction...
User1234567890: Is there any statement from them to explain why they do not go mirrorless?
> Joe Bagadonuts Because the camera industry doesn’t need one more mirrorless camera.
"Camera Industy" gives no ... for many-many years by now whether something from Ricoh/Pentax will be dSLM or dSLR... they are irrelevant to the industry
User1234567890: Is there any statement from them to explain why they do not go mirrorless?
> Is there any statement from them to explain why they do not go mirrorless?
they can't compete, so they retreat to where competition is less ... they bet on C&N leaving dSLR market so that they can potentially survive on few people who still want dSLRs
Indohydra: An APS DSLR? Why?
> An APS DSLR? Why?
because they can't do anything else - so they seek a niche where no else bothers to compete anymore ...
Indohydra: An APS DSLR? Why?
> Why are there Leica rangefinders?
because Leica can sell them for $10K
zakk9: Lovely camera. What's not to like? That it's not mirrorless? For stills, I absolutely prefer an optical viewfinder, and when they make a camera as functional and beautiful as this, I'm very tempted.
Price? I only pay one time. I take photos every day.
> For stills, I absolutely prefer an optical viewfinder,
get a camera with decent EVF finally
SR Hadden: I think many here will be underwhelmed or indifferent... until they see the high ISO results. It'll probably wreck all other APS-C cameras, X-T4 included, and low- to mid-range full-framers too.

Edit: I just saw Richard's response to ZT, below. Scientifically correct but I'm still thinking that real-world results will be better than expected.
> until they see the high ISO results.
with mandatory NR applied to raw you mean :-) ... we even don't need to wait to see that, because we all know what Pentax does.
Kwick1: I actually like the concept. Continuous refinement rather than just throwing a ton of features for the sake of having features. It will be interesting to see how it performs, especially image quality and AF.
> I actually like the concept.
the concept of being 1% of dSLR market while not being Leica in terms of prices ?
starbase218: How's the AF? How's the AF? How's the AF?
Ahhhh it's not in here. :( ;)
> "despite that Pentax team itself says the opposite"
Pentax has a new camera to sell, Butler does not
xmeda: $1999 = suicidal pricing
> $1999 = suicidal pricing
it is price for pentax-faithfuls. they don't have any options :-) otherwise they 'd not be faithful long time already
Astro Landscapes: Indeed, to imagine a K-1 iii with a 45 MP chip and these improvements, is to imagine a camera that would, in fact, de-throne the D850 for all mut the most demanding high-speed AF tracking conditions.
Bring it in, Pentax!
> xmeda With what lenses?
with some screw driven ones no less... or what were those SDM micromotors that Pentax never come to fix (tough luck they say)
RolliPoli: "The Nikon will again offer better image quality..."
How is that done with a lower resolution sensor?
"...I dunno, Fuji has pretty much matched FF with their own 26 MP APSC sensor, at most ISOs..." - you mean Sony matched itself... of course it did not in reality - because a raw shooter does not need to shot @ equal nominal ISO values... for a dual gain X-T4 you select either nominal ISO160 when light is plenty or nominal ISO800 when otherwise - excersize to find the situation with DR for A7R4 (same sensel tech) I leave to you... but the difference will be way more than you wish to see by trying to trick a reader into comparing bclaff's graphs at equal nominal ISO :-)
RolliPoli: "The Nikon will again offer better image quality..."
How is that done with a lower resolution sensor?
How Z6 II (from the table - it is also Nikon, isn't it ) will provide better image ? just like that
I wish Adobe finally let people with top of the line modern GPUs to use "enhance details" w/o creating an actual 2nd DNG file in the filesystem - but seamlessly using may be "Process 2021" or so...
UlrichSchiegg: The message could have also been: another camera with little to no progress in DR at higher ISO where most fotographers would appreciate it. No difference between any maker.
"12 stops at iso 6400" - ISO is not part of exposure for a raw shooter... so dial in ISO500, have your 12 stops and push.
