She showed us in this video that the esthetic of available light photography is non plus ultra when compared to food photography done in big studio setups with huge lamps and umbrella reflectors...in this case, doing more with less...regardless, all modern day digital cameras with good lenses will achieve these results...bon appétit

Why all the hype ??? Quantum has been offering shoe mounted studio strobes for years...
They make great products...have been using my very old and reliable Quantum T2 mobile studio strobes for years

Hello Paul...I respect your point of view...I just dont agree with your statement that Quantum is not attracting any new customers...quite to the contrary...I know a lot of pro photographers that are considering or buying into their system due to proven durability and very easy mobility...
Take care and may the light always be with you
Matthias

cosinaphile: I appreciate b brittons musings about how leica helps one to slow down, to the advantage of the image, how the work involved and the commitment makes results favorable, more satisfying. This is a great topic, I would have read it readily , at 4 time the length.Having said that, I don't think the camera of the year designation is cogent here.
Given the sensor performance ,the cost & the general difficulty of getting good results with the rangefinder focusing method. especially for those who are newbies to the concept & commitment necessary,
A better title would be the "favorite camera I used this year & why" cameras of the year should be practical affairs that don't play into this idea of acquiring cultish obscenely expensive "objects" which is what leica has become.........

" POST OF THE YEAR "

This is a fantastic story...an American saga at best...I hope Andrew Lloyd Webber makes this into a grand musical to be seen exclusively on Broadway...

On article Leica SL Review (1099 comments in total)

The biggest market for Leica cameras is Asia...specifically Japan and China. A few years ago I was in Tokyo and I can say from my own experience that the Japanese are crazy (nuts) about Leica cameras. There is even a exclusive Leica Photoclub in Tokyo..
The upbeat photostore where I buy my Canon gear from here in Berlin also has one of the best Leica collections in Europe and the salesman told me that the best Leica customers are tourists from Japan, China, Russia, England and North America...very few Germans buy into the Leica system...to me it seems that Made in Germany is the strongest selling point...

The studio test scene shows the X-T2 with better and sharper J-PEG images at all ISO settings compared to my 5D MKIII ???...Are we slowly debunking the myth of FF superiority over A-PSC, or were the X-T2 images sharpened in post processing ???...

DPREVIEW (amazon) should and could fund the processing and post the results on this site...

This lens is really down to basics...no AF, no IS and only 3000 bucks...a real bargain IMO...a must have lens for anybody who is serious about photography.
