chaos215bar2: "The company explains on its website that this 'gives [the displays] almost magical properties while preserving their standard imaging capabilities.'"

This, unfortunately, doesn't explain a thing. Sounds neat, but their website is almost completely devoid of *any* information, let alone any kind of technical details.

It is magical!
It's a 1600$ Money grab stunt!

faterikcartman: So it's $1,200 for aluminum, and $1,600 for titanium for the phone. But this is Red. So how much is the battery pack? The grip? The lens? The sensor? And memory pack? All of which I presume will be sold separately and will be required to enable to thing to take calls and pictures.

;-)

20k and you got yourself a full operating smartphone camera kit!

Fuji should cut their patronizing prices to half!

Melinium: I can't wait for the mirrorless from Nikon, hoping that it don't follow the DL way. A dedicated lens line-up, with an adapter for the F mount lens. The sensor can be a FF or APS-C or both version.

just get the upcoming A7Riii.
IBIS, better on sensor AF, Great eye tracking and better video.

peeyaj: Any word who made the sensor?

(Sony's highest mp BSI sensor is 42mp)

A7 mark 3 sensor.

Spectro: bsi will give it better low light performance then without, much need it on a 46mp camera. Now a d750 replacement with a bsi 26-30mp would be nice.

Yea probably 2020 first nikon mirrorles, or just take a Sony.

ZeneticX: nice release by Nikon

now I'm waiting to see what Sony have up their sleeves to counter this, maybe a7rIII or the a9r

canon.... what's a canon?

What about 72mb, 5 stop ibis, 6k video capture with slog, 4k 60fps, improved eye detection af and 3.5 inch tilting touchscreen.

FuhTeng: Interesting idea. Assuming it's populated by people who aren't just trolling you, I think it could be a fun tool. But how to they make money? They can use your photos for something else? Advertisements in the app?

Probably, best to stay away.

All awards are reserved for Sony, the only company that truly innovate,

russbarnes: Let's face it, if Nikon released this, everyone would be calling for resignations from the board and spelling out "the end of Nikon". As it is, somehow Canon will be allowed to get away with this substandard POS. Or will they? I rather think they need to be given a spanking for this from their user base because as long as people buy it, Canon will think it's the way forward - the recent story of unexpected demand for this I'm just not buying at all. Ultimately I feel sorry for the Canon customer base and the damage this is doing to the whole brand.

By comparison look at what Nikon are likely to pack into the D850, and it's anyone's guess what Sony will try and put into something like the A7RIII. There are still innovators in the market, but Canon are RAPIDLY losing their way.

canon users are blind, to them canon is like apple.

Bass-80: I'm really disappointed.

Used to have a 50D with some L-lenses, renewed that last year to 80D, got me some new EF-L lenses like 100-400 II and was hoping/looking for jump to FF with this 6D II.

Got used to the ability to underexpose pics by 2-3 stops at ISO 100 with high contrast situations that my 80D allowed. That was a huge improvement of the 80D to the old 50D and I like that.

Now with these results, I can either take one of these 4 scenarios:
1) pay 2x the price of my 80D and have a step back from low ISO abilities in comparison to a APS-C
2) pay 3.5 the price of the 80D to gain FF bonus for lowlight and keep the DR abilities of my APS-C
3) stick with my 80D and reject the idea of Canon FF
4) sell my gear with loss and switch to Nikon

Thanks canon!
1&2 would justify this customer-unfriendly strategy you're pursuing.
I'm really feeling let down :-(

go take a sony, or nikon

Apple make workers in Thailand jump from the factory roof to death after non stop shifts and improper salary.
they offer companies a deal they can't refuse to produce the parts and the processor and they have to say yest to whatever apple offers them otherwise they will lose a huge production line but the workers are the ones who pays in their life!

YA9Productions: A7rii seems better to me.
better lenses support and video capabilities.
this sensor is just a hype.

These "medium format" sensors are not truly medium format.
better dof can be achieved with FF. show me a good MF lens that have a creamy bokeh for under 5000$.
